First time builder AMD Budget build

    I'm planning my first build. Here's what I was planning;
    AMD FX-6300
    WD Blue 500gb HDD
    HAF 912 case
Corsair CX750 PSU, planning on SLI in future
    G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB 1600
    Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard
    EVGA GTX560Ti
    DVD RW+/-
    Windows 7 64 bit
Will these components all be fine together and am I forgetting anything?

Re: First time builder AMD Budget build

I would probably look at this PSU:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/750w-...eps-12v-atx-v2

How 750W is probably a tad OTT,so a decent 600W to 650W do the job too, although the Antec does have 4 PCI-E power connectors.

    However,I would consider getting a GTX660 or HD7870 instead of a GTX560TI TBH.

The 560 was given to me by my brother and since I'm on a budget, I'll go with that for now. Maybe I'll save and upgrade that down the road. As for the PSU, I'll have to look into it. Thanks for the input!

Re: First time builder AMD Budget build

To be honest your requirements for a PSU are round the 550w to 600w mark unless you plan to overclock..

I would say this http://www.scan.co.uk/products/550w-...an-atx-v23-psu or this http://www.ebuyer.com/174182-ocz-mod...-ocz600mxsp-uk

or this if your budget will stretch this far http://www.ebuyer.com/291728-be-quie...700w-psu-bn194

all good PSUs quality assured parts in all of them

see here for specs on each one http://www.realhardtechx.com/index.htm just go to the manufacture page and select model as above

    hope this helps

All of these are good power supplies. I'm basing my wattage off of Newegg's psu calculator and the fact I'm planning on SLI in the future.

Re: First time builder AMD Budget build

O.K. Ichanged the build quite a bit. Here's my final list of components that are here and ready to be pu together
Phenom IIx4 965 black edition (planning on upgrading next year)
    ASUS Sabertooth 990fx
    G.Skill Ares series 8GB
    XFX Core Edition 550W PSU
    HAF 912 case
Windows 7 Home Premim 64 bit
Samsung 840 pro series 128 GB ssd
Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200 RPM SATA III
    Enermax ETS-T40-TB CPU cooler
    ASUS 24x dvd rw
    EVGA GTX 560 Ti GPU
I'm hoping the psu is enough for a slight overclock with the 965. Hoping to upgrade to steamroller when it comes out later in the year. Hopefully it has a lower wattage.

Re: First time builder AMD Budget build

Personally I prefer Corsair RAM to G.Skill. It looks better and is significantly cheaper (and you can easily OC it to the same degree of G.Skills)
The 840 SSD is a good bet, I happen to own one () and my boot times are around 20-30 seconds, including all peripheral programs. (Very satisfying to see windows load before its loading animation properly starts)
For the GPU, I highly recommend changing it. You'd get far greater performance out of the 7000 series of AMD for less money. The 7850 is a great bet. But even the 7770 would probably out perform the 560ti.
If you plan on your OC, I recommend the Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 -> 20 quid, running my i5 3570k at 4.6Ghz, 70 degrees under Prime95. (Has full compatibility with AMD sockets out of the box).
Also, I previously owned the AMD 955 phenom X4, and that was fairly snappy for its cost good choice.

    Obs.

EDIT: Didn't see you already had the 560, sorry
    Current specs:
    CPU: Intel i5 3570k Overclocked @ 4.6Ghz GPU: MSI Twin Frozr 7850 @ 1000Mhz Cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 RAM: 16Gb Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA Z77X-D3H

The Sabretooth is nice motherboard, but I also would consider the following:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-...-%28x16%29-atx

The Asus motherboards tend to have LLC which is useful for overclocking;the Gigabyte motherboards seem to have patchy support in this regard.

If you are overclocking I would either consider the FX6300 or perhaps the Phenom II X6 1045T:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/amd-p...che-95w-retail

The Phenom II X6 1045T Scan sell is the 95W TDP version, which even though it has a locked multiplier appears to be a good overclocker, and people have got upto 3.8GHZ to 4.2GHZ with them IIRC. I have a mate who uses a overclocked FX6300 and it is pretty easy to overclock, and can even beat a FX8150 and a Phenom II X6 1090T in games like BF3 MP, when at stock clockspeeds.

BTW,when you get to 20 posts you should be able to get free postage from Scan:

+1 on the change to corsair ram. My brother used gskill for a while (ie 2 months) before it failed and had nothing but trouble from their customer support. When his corsair psu failed, they bent over backwards to help.
For overclocking on an amd chip I would seriously look at the black editions as they scale much better on the multiplier. I have my fx8150 stable at 5.2ghz without fiddling with the voltage too much.
GPU wise, I would follow the advice given about going with the gtx 6xx series as opposed to the 560ti. The 560 will he outdated far sooner than the 660 so you'll spend more money in the long run.

And on the PSU note, the antec unit Cat recommended is a very nice one. Currently have it in my system, and it is solid as a rock. Being a hybrid modular, it is much easier to deal with the cables inside the case than non modular psu's.
