Talking One more build to review...

So ideally i'd like to do the whole thing for under £1000 but I know that's not going to happen, so here's my build so far:

    Case:
    • D-frame Case - http://www.inwin-style.com/pd_info.php?id=292
    £300

    Internals:
    • CPU – Intel i5 IvyBridge
    £165.14
    • GPU – XFX Radeon 7970 DD Edition, DDR5, 925Mhz, 2048 Cores
    £284.15
    • Motherboard – ASRock Z77 Extreme 4
    £106.52
    • RAM – Corsair Vengeance 16GB
    £70
    • PSU – XFX Core Edition Pro Series 650W
    £65.58
    • SSD - 120GB SanDisk Extreme, 2.5" SSD, SATAIII - 6Gb/s, Read 550MB/s, Write 510MB/s 23000 IOPS 83000 IOPS Max.
    £72.14
    • HDD - 500GB Seagate ST500DM002 Barracuda SATA 6Gb/s, 7200rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.5ms, NCQ
    £40.43

    TOTAL: £804
(I read somewhere that the D-frame might come with In Win's Commander III PSU so if it does i'll use that to save myself so £££)

    Watercooling:
o CPU - EK-Supreme LTX - Acetal CSQ, for Light XTreme
    £26.06 G1/4" thread
o GPU - EK-FC7970 - Acetal CSQ for AMD reference design Radeon HD 7970 and -7950 Graphics Card

    • Radiator – XSPC EX360 Triple Fan Radiator- Black
    £49.08 G1/4" thread
    • Pump - Laing DDC Pump 12V
    £59.87 G1/4" thread
    o Phobya Hose Clamps 13mm
    £0.71 x2 = £1.42
    • Reservoir - Phobya Balancer 150 black nickel
    £22.72 x2 = £45.44
    • Hose -Masterkleer 59117 tubing PVC 13/10mm (3/8"ID) UV-reactive dark red 3.3m
    £6.66 ID: 3/8"/ OD: 1/2"
    • Barbs
    o Straight
    £2.09 x10 = £20.09 ID: 3/8" / OD: 1/2"
    o Angled
    £2.99 x2 = £5.98 ID: 3/8" / OD: 1/2"
    • Radiator Fan - 120mm Cooler Master SickleFLow Red LED Quiet Case Fan
    £5.51 x3 = £16.53
    • Distilled Water
    £6.30
    Silver coils
    £4.50 x 2 = £9
    • Reservoir Lights
    o LED’s – Phobya 83064 two 5mm ultra-bright Red LEDs on 30cm Cable
    £1.79
    o G1/4" thread stop cap
    £1.99 x2 = £3.98

    TOTAL: £320

    TOTAL FOR ENTIRE BUILD: £1423

Found some cheaper places to order stuff but I'll probably just buy the whole lot from SCAN.co.uk...

Let me know what you guys think/ have any recommendations !

I would probably get a different HD7970. XFX are not known for the best CS with graphics card.

Re: One more build to review...

XFX give no Customer service on their graphics card, AFAIK it's because they gone the direct distribution route, so you are not their customer and they have no warrant agreement with you, the shop is xfx's customer and you are the shop's customer, xfx warranty the card with the retailer for 3 years from the time of retailer purchase, it's then up to the retailer as to how much they pass on to you the end customer.
Some places offer the full 3 years, which means the shop will have to absorb most of the last 6 month costs as any card you'd claim a warranty rma on in the last 6 months is likely to be out of the original xfx 3 year warranty (remember it's the time the shop bought the card from xfx not when you bought the card from the shop) but most shops cover themselves by only offering you the end customer only 2 years warranty.
This means that the full length of the warranty should be handled through the retailer only not XFX, so only buy an xfx card from a retailer you trust.

Personally The biggest worry with xfx cards is their spotty quality, esp on the higher factory oc models, I'd go with Sapphire, gigabyte or Asus over xfx generally, will depend on price of course.

note: this does not apply to xfx PSU's, these are handled by xfx, AFAIK although any testing and repairs are actually done by seasonic, so you contact XFX and they arrange rma to seasonic for you. (you still have to send the psu to seasonic's UK rma address)

On the build it self, if the D frame doesn't come with a PSU then I'd look at changing that, a modular psu, in a case that open you cannot easily hide cables easily.

Re: One more build to review...

@DanceswithUnix Haha, thanks, i'll put up some pics once the whole thing is done...

@Pob255 Thanks for the info, I may switch to a modular PSU since the cables are going to be on view just as well as the rest of the PC, I'm not too particular about sticking with XFX, just trying to keep the price down as much as possible. Any tips on switching out components/ buying elsewhere to lower the overall price ?

Re: One more build to review...

Thanks for the tip Ciber, turns out of got an old External Hard drive lying around that 1TB so i'm just going to cannibalise that since its no longer used and just an ordinary 3.5" drive inside...

I've switched my PSU to :http://www.scan.co.uk/products/650w-...uiet-fan-atx-v , went for hybrid modular since you'll always need a CPU connector anyway...

Thanks for a ll the tips guys, i've ordered all the parts so i'm just waiting on the D-frame to get launched in the UK...

    Pics coming soon...
