    Re: Upgrade Advice

That's why I went for 750W in my listing, and the XFX ones are using seasonic components while remaining a bit cheaper than some of the other choices.

    Re: Upgrade Advice

    Consider these two:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/750w-...ps-12v-fan-atx
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/750w-...lus-bronze-psu

Essentially the same price but you get modular cables.

The NZXT is also Seasonic, but has mixed reviews:
    http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...tory5&reid=297
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/5277/n...82-650w-750w/5

Seasonic are great, but not always a guarantee of quality.

Also think about your case, an FT03 may not be the best case for 7950 CF, they can run pretty hot and AMD reference coolers aren't great and open air cooling wouldn't really work either.

    Re: Upgrade Advice

Might be worth waiting to see how the CF fix is coming along.

Or you could go for the value option and get 660 SLi for £300 with similar performance to the 780!
Much less power as well, especially vs 7950 CF.

    Re: Upgrade Advice

One thing I'd personally say about CF/sli is do it at the start with two of the same card or not at all, there's lots of minor variations in cards that can create niggling issues.
granted it was a while I last tried but I just couldn't get a pair of gtx9800 G92 to play nicely together, two different brands but both where stock cards identical under the stickers, but they would just constantly go out of sink and create screen tearing.

Also personally I'd say cf or sli isn't worth it unless you have to have max fps at all times or you're running multiple monitors or 3d

I agree a 750 at least maybe even 850 to be safe.

    Re: Upgrade Advice

My upgrade plan is all over the place now, I'm moving flat at the end of the month and deposit & first months rent has taken my savings

So I'm torn between a smaller upgrade or keeping to a crazy £1600+ build but do it over the next few months

I bet you could get a 99% crazy build for around £1000.
Maybe SLI 760s when they come out?

    Re: Upgrade Advice

I just can't help myself wanting a 780, it depresses me buying old tech (760 or 770 ) its the same as I don't NEED a 27" Dell Ultrasharp, it would be fine with the 24" but I still want one

Think my upgrade path over the next couple months will be SSD & Ram > GPU > Monitor > PSU & Cooler (to then OC the old i5 760).

Stuff I have my eye on:
    500Gb Samsung 840
    8 or 16Gb Corsair Vengeance
EVGA 780 SC ACX (on the top end) or maybe just a lowly 770
    27" Dell U2713HM
    850W XFX XXX PSU
    Corsair H100i

Then a bit further down the line I can get a new CPU & Mobo.

    Re: Upgrade Advice

If you are just getting a 780 then 600-650w will be fine, so that's a saving.

If you can talk yourself into getting an 'old tech' 770 then 760 SLI which should outperform a titan should also be an option.

Do you really need a 500Gb SSD?
Get a 250 and upgrade later if needed.

How far can you take your i5 on your current cooler?

    Re: Upgrade Advice

Yeah the choices are smaller PSU and single 780 or larger PSU and go SLI on either 770s or 760's when they release.

As for the 500gb SSD my current setup as a 500Gb Samsung F3 drive which is more or less full. I don't use my PC to store data (microserver for that) however I do usually have many games installed as I get bored and switch between them often (steam library is over 200 games now)... so I would rather just go for 500Gb and not have to get annoyed later.

Current i5 would happily sit at 4.2Ghz on a better cooler, I had issues with my old cooler so now currently running back on Stock so wouldn't really want to push it anywhere. The H100i was a good choice as I could overclock to 4.2+ and it would still serve me well if/when I upgraded to a new chip later down the line.

    Re: Upgrade Advice

So installed SSD & Ram few days ago and got windows & steam going. On Saturday I got a Fractal R4, 750W Corsair Pro and a H100i so moved and connected everything up and clocked my i5 760 upto 4.2Ghz (+50% ) and its rock stable without temps going above 60C on a heavy gaming session.

The old 460 is the next thing I need to replace but due to flat move next weekend I'm broke for a bit so the 770 will have to wait.
