I've been playing about and can't get 3200mhz to boot. I've started to increase the voltage, but have no idea what's safe - so being conservative. Best I've got stable so far is:

    CPU-z Memory (RAM)

    Total Size: 16384 MB
Type: Dual Channel (128 bit) DDR4-SDRAM
    Frequency: 1532.4 MHz - Ratio 3:46
    Timings: 18-18-18-38-72-1 (tCAS-tRC-tRP-tRAS-tCS-tCR)
    Slot #1 Module: Patriot Memory 8192 MB (DDR4-2137) - XMP 2.0 - P/N: 3200 C16 Series
    Slot #2 Module: Patriot Memory 8192 MB (DDR4-2137) - XMP 2.0 - P/N: 3200 C16 Series

Can't see 1. cache and 2. memory benchmark but here is some info:

Keep the voltages within spec though as RAM is more fragile. Having said that 3000mhz is still not bad for non Samsung B die chips, but unless you look under the heatspeader it's hard to say what chips are being used.

I would probably stick with just under 3.1ghz TBF as that is still solid and try and tighten up the timings as much as you can.

I'm wondering if I should rma them, as they aren't reaching the stated speed...

Like I said Ryzen can be a tad finicky with RAM and if they changed the specs a bit it might not help. Getting any non-Samsung B die memory to nearly 3.1GHZ is decent, and the 3GHZ set might not have even reached that as it was dual ranked and it was the cheapest 3200MHZ set I could find. However,Ryzen also does benefit from latency,so I would probably take 3GHZ running at lower latency that 3.2GHZ than at higher latency.

    I 'almost' thought I'd cracked 3200 mhz (3198 mhz):

I achieved the above by upping the DDR's V-Core. I'm currently on 1.440v and may push onto 1.490v next ... but I'm getting cold feet! I have no idea what's safe?

Getting there - does enabling the XMP profile for the RAM not work??

Having said that, what is the lowest CAS latency settings you can push at 3066MHZ - it might actually lead to better performance.

Here is an example of what I am talking about:

It seems I get a BIOS error when booting the above from cold (i.e off/on), but it will loop and then boot...

I tried 3066mhz and a lower CAS but it's not playing ball at all. I may need to play a bit more if 3200mhz is deffo a no go! Your links are encouraging!

My best (stable) 3066mhz effort so far:

I'm in the same boat. I have an AM3 Athlon II and weighing up if it's worth going for new platform. I still use 7, that is also a consideration for me.

If you can get ssd m.2 ssd wouldn't this bring a noticeable upgrade in speed.

Rig is all settled in now and working - thank you Hexus users for the help! I've never got to 3200mhz stable, so dropped back. I've also noticed the rear USB ports, on the mobo, seem to dislike my printer. It seems to loose the connection... Not sure it's an RMA job. Hoping for a BIOS update to solve both the above.

    Un-rushed next steps are:
I'm still in the market for a value Gfx card (playing occasional Warhammer 2 atm) and a M.2 NVMe / SSD (for Photoshop / InDesign)

yes atm value and graphics cards seem to be exclusive opposites

even the 2nd hand market is inflated

Re: Upgrade help (AMD Phenom II X6 1090T & MSI 770) OR should I buy a new build?

UPDATE 1 - BIOS finally updated:
I've just had a look and there is a new BIOS update, which includes improved support for memory. I plan to flash this later this week and I'll report back if I begin to have any success getting to 3200mhz!

    UPDATE 2 - Storage (HDD/SSD):
I currently have the following in my rig:
    Drive #1: SAMSUNG SSD 830 Series / Capacity #1: 128 GB
    Drive #2: Seagate ST2000DM006-2DM164 / Capacity #2: 2000 GB

My 128gb boot drive has run out of space. (I have 1gb left!) So, therefore need a new 500gb SDD or (preferably) a M.2 NVMe drive.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to buy this week? I'm currently looking at a Samsung 850 EVO 500gb @ £117.13 and Crucial MX500 500gb @ £108.83. Clearly the M.2 NVMe are insane prices!

I might get by with a 256gb M.2 NVMe... And I want as much speed as possible in my rig. (I have a internal 2tb HDD, a 256bg laptop and 3tb NAS for general storage.) I'm thinking Samsung 960 250gb EVO PCI Express 3.0 x4 NVMe @ £107 .

Any words of wisdom? Or link to buy now?

get another SSD of about 250gig

Install Win on that and your favourite apps...use your old SDD as a back up for a week in case you've forgotten to export anything. Then once you know it's all ok to format it... use that for other stuff like games and the like that is CURRENTLY flling up your main drive.

Keep the big old spin drive for photo's and films etc

    Both are solid choices IMHO!

    If you want a 256GB M2 PCI-E M2 SSD,this one is worth a look:

    Its only PCI-E 2.0X though:
