    Help...new system serious problems.

My new Scan system ran fine for about a week but has developed a serious problem......I came home after leaving it on for around 4 hours last night & found that windows had recovered from a serious error.

Since then I cannot boot or if it does boot to windows it very quickly either shuts down or blue screens.
I've had a message that says " Windows must now restart because the power service terminated unexpectedly" & blue screens with SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION...check newly installed hardware or software.

Does this sound like a hardware problem or soft?
I'll speak to Scan support tomorrow but wondered if there's anything I can try to help pinpoint the problem.

Do Scan set up a restorable configuration of any kind so I know it's not something I have installed.

Note that I have problems also in safe mode so it's now difficult or impossible to un-install anything.

    Thanks
    Andy.

    andygrim,

Your best bet is to contact our System Support Team tomorrow. 0871 472 47 47 - Should be option 1, then 3 for tech then the 3XS Systems Support option. Leave a voicemail - one of the engineers will give you a call back.

Sounds like a service that was installed has caused Windows boot issues.

If the system was provided with Acronis - you can try hitting F11 during boot and restoring the original image back to day one settings, however I'd advise a backup of your personal data if at all possible prior to this.

Edit: Have a look at this thread; http://forums.hexus.net/scan-3xs-sys...xs-system.html

Good luck and all the best

    Hi Andy

If its a Windows 7 Overclocked system make sure that all the settings in the power saving features are set like the thread below

    http://forums.hexus.net/scan-3xs-sys...ocked-pcs.html

On an overclocked system even setting a screensaver or a Desktop slide show can cause it to crash, we set the profile in the power saving features specifically to prevent this :-)

Also using "Free" Antivirus software on a Windows 7 64 Bit issue can cause the issue, as Lee has mentioned a lot of our systems come with the option of Acronis True Image, if you have this you can run the software and select to recover the 3xsbackup file, this will overwrite the current OS drive so back anything up to another drive or partition first, this reload eliminates the issue being any changed settings or 3rd party software and even gets rid of spyware and Viruses.

Please email your Invoice and Build number to systemsupport@scan.co.uk and I will look into this tomorrow

You may also want to test the Ram by using Memtest http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

Extract the iso file and burn the image to CD using Nero or any other image writing software, Windows 7 has this built in, reboot the system and as it starts you will be promted on the screen to enter the boot menu, this varies on all systems its usually F8 or F12 once you do this you can select to boot from disk and let the memtest run for a minimum of 10 passes

Please forgive any grammar or spelling mistakes I am typing this out late at night

    Regards

    Ben

    Re: Help...new system serious problems.

System seems to be running ok after I spoke to support (Sanjay) earlier & removed 3 of the sticks of ram.

Been waiting an hour for a support callback to see what to do next though.

Should I try the memtest that was mentioned with all ram back in to try & pinpoint the problem stick?

    Build no 30033
    Inv E1427325

Just to note that the Acronis startup manager had not been activated so I wasn't being given the F11 option to restore on boot. (Though maybe worked out for the best this way, as I won't need to reinstall everything now!)

    Re: Help...new system serious problems.

Support actually called me straight after last posting....system is still running rock solid on 6Gb so I just need to confirm if the problem is bad ram or if the memory timings are out due to an accidental bios reset.

Very grateful for the prompt & helpful service.

    Hi Andy

Did you test the new Ram has it resolved the issue?

    Ben
