Skype just buggered my Bluetooth - Help please :)

I was wondering if someone can help me with this.

I just attempted to pair a wireless headset with my PC via BT - nothing unusual, just a normal bluetooth pair. The problem seems to have started when Skype tried to access the BT device. Suddenly Skype stopped responding and then for no reason, the device software was no longer properly installed on my BT device (which was perfect prior to this).

I have restarted my PC and the BT icon is suddenly very absent. In device manager, I now have an "Unknown Device" in the USB controllers. I am assuming this is the BT device as all other devices are present and accounted for with no "!" on them. I have tried installing the BT software form the disc, I've tried uninstalling the device and scanning for changes and it keeps telling me that "Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date" as an "Unknown device".

Looking at the driver details, it tells me that no driver is installed for said "Unknown device". I am in the process of downloading drivers from the Asus website, but I'm not too confident that this will work. I don't seem to have roll back set up on my PC yet (D'oh) so I have no idea what to do.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

BTW I just checked the back of my PC and the light on the BT device is on. Don't know if that helps.

    Thanks

    Simon Stewart

P.S. I'm guessing you'll know details from my system build in my profile.

    Hi,

The drivers will be on your motherboard driver CD. Should be in the motherboard box with your other bits n pieces that came with your system.

    Regards,

Re: Skype just buggered my Bluetooth - Help please :)

I have made sure that the BT icon should show in the notification bar incidentally, just to be sure...

    I just emailed you, Rob.

My PC will not let me install the drivers, telling me that it has determined that... hang on, let me get the right message

First of all, if I select driver details, it says that no drivers are required or have been loaded for this device

If I select "Update Driver..." and then point it to the downloaded driver folder or Mobo BD disc, it tells me "Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date" and confirms it is an "Unknown Device". Then I can close.

I have tried the "Let me pick..." option followed by "Have disc" only to be told that the folder I have specified doesn't contain compatible software etc....."

I'm not being prompted to restart my PC so it can finish installing nothing *sigh*

Sorry to be a pain, I am sure this is a software isssue, but I'd really appreciate getting to the bottom of it.

    Thanks

    Simon

Re: Skype just buggered my Bluetooth - Help please :)

Quick update. Have restarted my system after it told me to no avail. I still have the unknown device and no Bluetooth device. I would note that the at a Bluetooth bus is present in system devices, but I don't think that means much.

    ...

    FURTHER UPDATE

Upon uninstalling the USB ROOT HUB (And locking out my keyb and mouse in the process), a simple reboot sorted EVERYTHING!

Now I can sleep!!! Hope this little panic ridden thread can help someone else in the future
