Re: any advice on a new build ?

    PSU - LN28583 Corsair HX650W

This power supply will more than provide enough power for your card and future upgrades, it's better quality and doesn't cost quite as much.

HDD - LN24642 Western Digital 500GB Caviar Black

Why have only 160GB, go for something larger like 500GB and partition it 100GB/400GB for OS and data. The Cavair Black is faster with a 32MB cache.

    My suggestions, hope it helps?

    Cheers

Re: any advice on a new build ?

    Hello Kenny2001,

The first thing that stands out to me is that the system is quite unbalanced in regards to CPU and the Graphics card.

With it being a gaming system the graphics card is the most important component, it might be worth looking at a Intel 750i on a P55 platform and put the difference towards a higher end graphics card.

I agree with Paulktreg that the 850w PSU is also overkill, a Corsair 650 or even 550 will suffice.

    Best Regards

Re: any advice on a new build ?

Thanks Guys for the quick response
Now looking over the spec's again I can see what you both mean.
re: the hdd yes its far too small and 'im tempted to keep the 160 as an os drive so i can have a secondary 500gb or 1tb drive for data maybe even redirect my docs and desktop to keep the os drive clean.

as for the unbalance in the gfx and cpu, which gfx card would you recommend to even things up if i kept the same chip and board.

    I missed this too
    LN29304 Pioneer DVR-S18LBK 22x DVD±R, 12x DVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, RAM x12, SATA, Black, Retail Labelflash

Thanks for you advice I look forward to your reply

Re: any advice on a new build ?

How much are you willing to spend overall? For a gfx card to even things up would look at an ati 5850 though its around double the price of the 250 you have in your spec atm.

Re: any advice on a new build ?

I did have this one in mind to start with but my total price kept creeping up.

    LN29063 Asus GTX285/HTDI/1GD3 - 1GB Asus Matrix GTX 285 OC, Extreme Overclock, 55nm, 2484MHz GDDR3, GPU 669MHz, 240 Cores

I will have to look at my overall cost again.

Re: any advice on a new build ?

I Finally managed to sort out my build specs with the help of paul @ scan so I will be placing the order at the end of the month (payday)
and the total price is just over £1100.00 so it wont break the bank.

good luck with that, have you thought about maybe trying to increase the number of your posts to save money on delivery costs from scan?

Also - you may want to look into a few security measures, it may be morbid but 1100 is a lot to lose to a person in a 3 pound balaclava off of amazon.
