    AM3 and DDR3

I am thinking about building a new system with an AM3 socket CPU and every board I look at is DDR3. Are boards backwards compatible with DDR2 it may be a newb question but I been out the loop for a while and ain't built a system in about 4 years now. My last system was also an intel I ain't touched an AMD in about 8 years lol.

    Re: AM3 and DDR3

Because AM3 motherboards are DDR3 only. You can use an AM3 CPU in an AM2+ motherboard though which uses DDR2.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

DDR2 and DDR3 aren't compatible - it's one or the other unless you get a weird board with both DDR2 and DDR3 slots.

If you wanted DDR2, you'd want an AM2+ motherboard rather than AM3. The processors are effectively the same, it's the RAM and the memory controllers that differ.
