    The magic 4ghz

    Hello all

    Im looking for some help

    I have a 3xs gaming rig based around an I7 920 @ 3.8ghz
Its performing great and im very happy with it

Recently I have joined a new forum and as well as gaming they have a pretty active overclocking/benchmarking group

As the nice guys at Scan included the 3dmark06 and Vantage programs with my system I gave it a quick go and posted my scores

The scores where great and I placed very well in the leader board
But every month it seems people are upgrading, buying new systems or running a bigger overclock and my scores fall down the list

But to move up the list it looking like i need to push for that magic 4ghz

As my rig was pre overclocked by the 3xs specialist engineers im not confident in playing around in the bios without some guidance

    And so onto my questions

1>Is this something you can help with

2>Having the silverstone TJ07 case under a desk in my bedroom the idle temp is around 50c
( thats about 5 to 10c above when it was tested inside scans 3xs room of building )
Is there some headroom there to increase the ghz, even if its just for one pass of 3dmark and never used again

3>If possible can 3xs provide a step by step instruction guide to create a o/c 3rd profile for the 4ghz
    ( noob proof guide )

    Thanks for reading

    Re: The magic 4ghz

I am sure if you speak with systems you can get the OC settings for your specific build. Profiles are saved so if you go wrong somewhere you can always reload the last OC profile.

    Re: The magic 4ghz

    Hi Recon

The overclock we have to do in order to keep the warranty valid, all components are different and it isnt always possible to obtan a stable 4Gig Overclock on a system

I have also read some of the claims on these forums and they do swap and change components out try different manufacturers Ram etc , the difference between 3.8 and 4Gig in game play terms is not noticeable as i had mine running at 4.2 Gig for a month and have settled on 4 Gig as its more stable but the FPS in games is not obvious and games are a better test than any test application

    Regards

    Ben

    Re: The magic 4ghz

I iniitially wanted a 4ghz overclock after visiting various forums. However, since receiving my machine I have been very satisfied with the 3.8ghz overclock

It won't make a difference to FPS at all when gaming. There maybe little difference when video encoding. But I definitely wouldn't mess with the warranty either.
