    Swappable drive bays - query

    Dear Scan Support,

Probably a daft question, but my 3XS PC has two HDDs, installed in two of several swappable drive bays. The second drive that I installed myself has the SATA & power leads plugged direct into the drive, which means taking both side panels off to swap the drive out. The primary drive was fitted at build, and has a system that allows the drive to be removed and replaced without such fiddling.

I want to know what the part is, and if you sell them. I have not been able to identify any such part on the Scan website (not helped by not knowing what they are called!!) but the part is shown in the image below, the piece with the SATA and power leads going into it (arrowed).

If you could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

    Thanks,

    Neil Porter

What kind of case is it?

I doubt that is a generic part so I would guess it comes with the case. Perhaps if Scan don't sell them individually you could look on the case manufacturers website.

It is a Silverstone Fortress FT01B-W case. If part of the case, it seems a bit mean to provide just the one of that part, when there are 7 such bays!! But will take a look at Silverstone's website - thanks for the suggestion.

    Funkstar,

You're a star! Found the part on Silverstone's website ("CP05 hot-swap Sata II cable, for Fortress, Raven & Kublai cases").

Knowing the part number (SST-CP05) I then can find it on Scan's website (LN21349 "50cm Silverstone CP05 SATAII HotSwap Cable for Kublai Series Cases", a snip at £5.82).

The guys at Scan could have told me this, I'm sure, but the detective work was interesting nonetheless!

    Onward....

    Neil.

PS: I would thank you "officially" in the user stats, if only I had enough forum post points to let me do so...
