    Help needed

Well I received my PC (thanks Philip and Chris for sorting that out). I have now installed everything but I am getting shocking framerates in games with the GTX 470.

It's really laggy and is between 15 and 40 fps.
I've read websites that say I should be getting about 60 - 80 with my rig but it's nowhere near that..

    I've got i7 930 @ 4.0ghz, 6bg of Corsair ram, ssd 64gb, 500gb f3 backup drive, 550w corsair psu, 22" Iiyama screen.

I've installed all the latest drivers, installed about 4 different graphics drivers (clean installs in safe mode). I can't improve it. GPU temp is only running at 48c - 60c.

    Any ideas?

    Re: Help needed

We need to know what games and settings.

Also, I've been having problems with Nvideas latest driver release so I've had to move too their 260 beta drivers for stability- you could try them.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    Re: Help needed

    I play mw and mw2.
mw is now playing on 1920 x 1080 22" monitor
    mw2 is on 1680 x 1050

I have to turn all AA and AF off. All settings in game are off.
I'm on the 260 beta drivers already.

Is there any way of sendin the pc back for a new case, psu and a hd5970?
This GTX 470 is the worst graphics card I've ever owned

    Re: Help needed

Sending it back for a new card would be a bit rash. If the 470 gives a certain number of FPS, then a properly configured, working 470 will more or less replicate the results.

Since you've bought it as a prebuilt system, it's either faulty hardware or a faulty software configuration in some way. Either way, I'm sure Scan will lend a hand so I'd hold off any decisions until they've had a chance to look at it on Monday.

    Re: Help needed

I will do, sure you can understand that I've waited a month for the system and when it arrives it's no good for it's purpose..
    I have a better experience gaming on a 17" laptop with a 9700m gts.

I tried installing lots of different drivers and then spent all today doing a clean install and testing different setups.. it's still no better.

Anyway, thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated

Trust me, I know all about that

Just think that on this occasion it's definitely worth holding your horses for a little while longer

    Re: Help needed

Well, I ran 3dMarkVantage and got a gpu score of 7752, I've checked peoples rigs that are roughly the same as mine and they get about 18k..

Just been playing mw2 and averaging 18fps.

I've tried 4 different drivers and done a clean install.

Hoping Scan know what to do because I'm at my wits end

    Re: Help needed

    Hi MrWilks,

That does sound very low. Is this replicatable in other games or just MW2?

Have you submitted a support request already? If not could you pm me your order details so we can look into it.

    Thanks.

    Re: Help needed

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.
Modern Warfare runs at 20 - 50 fps but that is with everything turned off (just 2 x AA in game).
I have set everything in the nvidia control panel to Max Performance and vsync is off.

I've managed to get mw2 playing between 17 and 45 fps but again, that's with everything off.

Reading around, the GTX 470 should be able to handle these games with near enough max settings :-s
When I ordered the website said Corsair 550watt power supply for Single Graphics Cards but I'm beginning to wonder if it could be the PSU not giving the card enough juice..?

My order number is 1742402 as I couldn't pm you.

    Cheers,

    Wain (MrWilks).

    Re: Help needed

Just to add to this, GPU usage is at 99% ingame and temps are 76 while playing (fan speed rises to 47%).

I think the temps and fan speed are well below limits but not sure about the usage..

    Re: Help needed

Also, I got 7752 3d mark vantage score which is well short of what this website says

    http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforc...-480-review/30
15.5k with an i7 rig stock speeds...

As Bruce Almighty said "Smite me Almighty Smiter!"
