No sound from sound card or from motherboard slot

So got my system today but one big problem........plugging my speakers in produces no sound (and yes they are in the correct ones) I plugged my speaker in to the front of the case, and I get sound but nothing from sound card.

I have looked in all the sound option and can't see anything out of place. In playback the soudn card is selected as the default device. I thought it may have been a usb thing that was hanging out the back of the case, but removing it does nothing (and I have no idea what it is. Its blue inside the usb tip)

    Any scan people about??

I'm guessing you are using the onboard sound on the MB and not a seperate Sound Card ? Are you plugging the speaker into a headphone 3.5mm jack on the front of the case and getting sound ? Cant be anything serious I would have though.

Make double sure you are using the correct socket on the MB and not a mike etc.
