Configuring 3XS Vengeance P67 OC with Z68 motherboard

    Hi,

I have on order a 3XS Vengeance P67 OC with a P8Z68-V Pro motherboard and an nVidia GeForce GTX 570 graphics card (build no. 33615), enabling me to use LucidLogix Virtu with both the nVidia card and the Sandy Bridge graphics. I have purchased it without Windows since I already own a full copy of Windows 7 hence I will be installing Windows myself on delivery.

I wanted to ask before it arrives (so I can get it up and running quickly when it does ) will the system be set by default to boot using the discrete graphics card as primary (which is what I want as I intend to connect my monitor to it, not the integrated graphics, since in all the reviews of the Z68 this is the best way to use it for optimum performance).

Assuming this is the case can I then just install Windows 7 and install the drivers for the integrated graphics and nVidia graphics before installing Virtu to enable me to take advantage of the iGPU for the tasks at which it's better (i.e. Intel QuickSync). Alternatively will I need to switch the graphics settings in the BIOS in order to do this and if so what will I need to do.

    Thanks for your help.

Re: Configuring 3XS Vengeance P67 OC with Z68 motherboard

The relevant options for configuring the integrated GPU and the discrete graphics adapter seem to be under Initiate Graphics Adapter in the BIOS.

The options according to the manual are:

[iGPU], [PCI/iGPU], [PCI/OCIE] and [PCIE/PCI] with the default being [PCIE/PCI]. I am assuming that this default means that the PC will use only the discrete graphics card if one is installed and the iGPU will be turned off.

This would then imply that [iGPU] means boot the PC with the discrete card powered down and only integrated graphics. Can I clarify that [PCI/iGPU] therefore means that both the discrete and integrated graphics will be on enabling switchable graphics and Virtu (I am assuming that it can't surely mean PCI in place of PCI-E graphics card)? I am not entirely sure what is meant by [PCI/OCIE] but I suspect this is a typo for [PCI/PCIE] and has something to do with enabling the use of a legacy PCI graphics card.

This is based the information that I have been able to glean from the Asus P8Z68-V Pro manual from Asus' web site. Basically all I want to confirm is I am correct in reading that if I leave it at [PCIE/PCI] then I can install Windows 7 without having to worry about integrated graphics or Virtu, but if I decide I want those features enabled I can just set it to [PCI/iGPU].

Sorry for the wordy post, but I would appreciate confirmation that I am correct in this, particularly as I have found out that Virtu is still somewhat in development so I may want to wait a little while before enabling it and will want the iGPU off in the mean time.

Re: Configuring 3XS Vengeance P67 OC with Z68 motherboard

I've managed to clear this up myself (I think) from Asus' forums. The relevant option is NOT Initiate Graphics Adapter, in fact options in there will turn off the discrete card if altered.

The relevant one seems to be to set iGPU Multi-Monitor to [Enabled].
