    Need help!

I recieved my new bundle from scan on wednesday and began setting up. problem im having is my system wont stay on when i turn it on. it turns on momentarily then shuts down and just repeats that cycle. on off. i noticed a red light that is constantly on, on the mobo.

I took the mobo/and out and attempted to turn it on outside of the case, thinking that maybe something was shorting. all my grounding plugs are in the board and there is no contact between the mobo and the case. so i set it down on the box and turned it on from the onboard switch. In standby the red light is still on. as i power the board it goes green only to go red and power down. while thinking about it at uni today i figured maybe its beacuse i hadthe graphics card connected and i didnt fit it right, but the fan from the gpu goes on so it must be connected correctly. Im also wondering maybe its the psu (enermax modu87+ gold 800w) but i cant tell. maybe i have connected something wrong, maybe one of my components are faulty. but before i have to return anything i want to be sure. could be something simple i overlooked any help would be good.

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Need help!

    Hi

Please try taking the battery out of the motherboard and leave it out for 20 mins with the power disconnected, then put the battery in and see if it posts, if it does press Del to goto the bios and load the Profile saved by Scan - Save and exit and restart the system

If this still isnt working you may need to look at hardware, are you using the psu out of another system or did you get it with the order?

Try the system with one memory stick as well as it may be a failing Ram module

    Regards

    Ben

    Re: Need help!

Are you sure im ok to do that? prior to recieving my bundle I got an email from 3XS saying to take care not to remove the cmos battery. they did also mention i could retrieve the OC settings as you mentioned. I will try this.

My PSU was ordered at the same as my bundle. im building my dream pc from the ground up. bought everything from scan. I would like to add I have been happy with the service so far. just wish I could get my head around the issue I am having here. try what you suggested. hopefully this will fix it.

    Many thanks

    Re: Need help!

    Hi

If you are not wanting to take the battery out try with the single memory stick in and also make sure you have all the power cables from the psu to the motherboard and the VGA card

Make sure that the CPU cooler is tight on the CPU and that this hasnt loosened in transit

You are advised that updating the bios without consulting Scan can invalidate your warranty as we test the OC Bundles with the bios supplied and the settings may not work 100% stable with a different bios

    Good luck

    Regards

    Ben

Im too scared too remove the battery as i dont want to void warranty or my scan insurance. the ram option sounds best. i will not connect the graphics card this time.

    Re: Need help!

I have tried to boot up with only one of my ram modules and still no luck. at this point im going to assume that either this build or this psu (which is brand new and i bought for this system, is faulty.

this is what its like when in stanby. that red light is constantly on..

when powered up it momentarily seems to work...

    http://s1205.photobucket.com/albums/...3DSP_A0403.jpg

    tried with one ram module:

    http://s1205.photobucket.com/albums/...3DSP_A0413.jpg

the light on the cpu cooler does this before shutting down:

    http://s1205.photobucket.com/albums/...3DSP_A0410.jpg

the cpu cooler works. as the fans spin and the led indicator on the cooler lights up very briefly before system shut down. I boght this system on wednesday. Not impressed right now. I waited 4 weeks for this stuff to arrive and now i have it, it dont even power up.

    Re: Need help!

    Hi Midiman,

When you say "it turns on momentarily then shuts down and just repeats that cycle. on off"

How long is this cycle? A few seconds or half a second?

If it's a few seconds, You need to remove the BIOS battery for 20 mins or so and leave unplugged from the mains. The Gigabyte boards seem to do this sometimes when they drop the overclock.

If its half a second or less, It would suggest the PSU, although i would be surprised as we rarely see a faulty enermax power supply!

To remove the BIOS battery, you'll see a notch at the bottom of the plastic holder, Power off the PSU (or disconnect) and push this notch down with a finger nail, one half should pop out and you can remove it.

Leave the battery out for 20 mins, then clip it back in (insert top half first then push the bottom half in) When you power the system up you should see an error message prompting you to enter the BIOS.

When in the BIOS press F12 to "Load from profile" and select either profile 1 or 2 (you should see them labelled as 3XS Standard / Overclocked) and then press F10 to save and exit.

All being well your system will boot up.

Let us know how you get on.

You don't have the 8 Pin power connection attached mate.

    Re: Need help!

are you certain this will not void my warranty? could i not just press it down a bit to secure it? i spent a hefty sum for this stuff,so that warranty thing is a big issue for me. I will try it if you guys at scan give me authorization to do so without voiding warranty.

The bundle looks awsome by the way. when i opened it up i just sat there and gawped at it for 2 minutes. All that black, white and gold... the enermax seems fine too, and i feel this is mobo related. Im thinking that battery might issue might solve it too. but as i said i need you to confirm this will not void my warranty.

speaking of that enermax... my case (NZXT phantom) has a vent on the underside allowing me to turn the psu upside down. is this reccomended with the enermax ? Its quiet the brick so im not so sure.

    Thanks for the reply

Mate, you need to connect the 8 pin connector to the mainboard, without it that board will never run.

roughly a second and a half. long enough for the lights to change but not long enough to get an error message from that onboard LED.

Oh dear, I will try again, the 8 pin connector on your mainboard needs to plugged into the 8 pin connector from your power supply, do that and your system will work.

Gawd, im such a rookie . I thought i would just have to connect the chunky main one and the molex to power the cooler. . i will try again. thanks jon. hopefully this solves my problem without touching the CMOS.

just to confirm...ben, can I remove the CMOS without voiding my warranty? i have scan insurance too if that helps.

Thanks guys.. my weekend has just brightened up with a glimmer of hope. i will let you know how this goes.
