I must admit I'm not very impressed with Scan at the moment.

I ordered just over a week ago and I still haven't even got a build number or date! When I chased a couple of days ago I was told the delay was due for parts waiting to come in - but I believe they were all in stock as of Wednesday 25 July, yet still no build number or date.

When I purchased my PC I was told the current build time is 2-3 weeks. I'm already 1 week in and thy haven't started build, let alone test

Is really expected that I have to keep chasing Scan on things like this?

I placed my order on 30/6/12, building started on 18/7/12 - so just over 2 and a half weeks between order and build start.

It does seem to be a lengthy process - but a worthwhile one hopefully

I ordered on the 1st and it took them to the 10th to give me a build date of the 17th (actual build date moved to 18th)
so looks like the whole process takes about 4-5 weeks.
It is frustrating but as other comments have shown well worth the wait.
My only gripe is the length of time it takes scan to reply to e mails.
I just received my test results yesterday

Thanks cactusjack and jjc_uk - although I'm not sure your comments are making me feel much better, except to see others are being left waiting a long time as well

They should really be setting their clients expectations better, and instead of advising 2-3 weeks - giving a more accurate picture. But then I guess they would risk losing business if the sales team were telling people it's going to be over a month before your PC is built - which is an inordinate amount of time. 1/12 of a year to get your PC

Re: 3XS Order finally placed and excited :-)

I'm pretty sure mine took a month or so when it was first built between ordering and receiving. Could have taken longer actually. I always got the impression that the majority of the wait is just being in a queue or waiting for stock to come in. Once they start the build it only takes a few days before dispatch. I guess a day or so to build, a day to test and then maybe a day to QA and dispatch.

My upgrade, which was practically a rebuild, took about 3 weeks from start to finish. However as it wasn't a new PC I didn't get build numbers and the tracking option on the website. They did phone me up quite often though to let me know what was happening. This was mostly due to needing my input on something and also at times because I had asked them to let me know when things had been done. I found them to be pretty good in this regard though.

Overall I'm happy to wait a little bit longer for a product I know that has been put together and really well tested which I know is how Scan operate. Unfortunately I'm not 100% sure on how things work for new systems as it was quite a while ago I had mine done. I'm not too sure if they have fallen down on this regard or if what you are experiencing is "normal" as such.

I could understand them not giving out a build number until it is actually allocated to an engineer which could well be after 2 weeks or so. Hopefully the process from this point to dispatch though would be quite quick and still within the 3 week lead time they gave you. Anyway this is total supposition on my part. All I can really do is reiterate that I was very happy with the customer service I received from Scan. I guess I just didn't expect too much from them in the first 2 weeks though and it was only after that time that I started hearing from them. When I did speak to them though I was impressed!

I really hope you get your build number and everything soon Nocode. At least it will then put your mind to rest that everything is proceeding along, even if its at a slower pace than I guess we would all prefer.

    Waiting sucks!!!

    Really hope so dude.

If you're planning on getting Diablo 3 and fancy playing through with a new character let me know. I'm happy to start a new one as grinding my wizard from level 57 to level 60 has lost some of the attraction now!!!

Sounds awesome. But for the time being, in between being bogged down by work, it is Skyrim and World of Warcraft - oh and Civilization 4 and Medieval Total War 2.

oooh Jim, very excited for you.

I got sent an email after the delivery saying to make sure that all protective packaging was removed from inside the system (something to look out for before you turn it on)

Re: 3XS Order finally placed and excited :-)

    Received my PC's at about 4 o'clock.

1 pc had handle on box torn as if dropped, that pc had a loose processor fan which I re attached, no os found ,which was a loose cable and an disconcerting high pitch whine from the psu
but otherwise all ok. I have informed scan just to be safe.
just in the process of cloning the OS onto spare ssd's I ordered, before installing my usual software.

    That doesn't exactly sound great!

At least you've told Scan so if there's any more issues down the line they should be able to claim off DPD. Does sound like it was dropped but hopefully you've fixed anything that was knocked loose. The high pitched whining from the PSU doesn't sound good though. I'm not sure I could put up with that if it didn't stop quite quickly.

Hope everything works OK from now on.

You mention that your PC was delivered by DPD - did Scan give you the option for an engineer to come round with it and install/check?

Re: 3XS Order finally placed and excited :-)

    Hi Cactus
on the configuration I believe there was a choice for engineer install, as I am fairly technically competent and space was not ready for the pc to set-up I chose not to select engineer install.

DRharvey12 yes the high pitched noise has stopped now so here is hoping, usually if memory serves me right that is a sign of a capacitor about to blow.

anyway thanks for comments I am off to configure a bit more.
