After a delay I've been informed that my build date is today
woohoo!
Mine was scheduled for today also. On the one hand I'm excited like a kid at Christmas. But I'm trying to tone that down as I know there's a good chance nothing much will happen.
Hmm my build date was orig for the 5th Dec but they after I contacted them they said they were running 1-2 days behind schedule..
I'm the same as you I just want my system now
1-2 days I can live with.... blimey I ordered on the 16th Nov... so only another 1-2 days to build start is good.
11th Nov for me! Cant wait to get the system, haven't been too impressed with the communication so far but hopefully will start building today.
This is my second 3XS system, and things haven't changed much. My view has always been: Top Notch System. Super flexible ordering, Fantastic price.
Support one the one occasion I used it was also good.
But you're right the one thing eager people like me miss is the communication:
16th Nov - Order conf email.
17th Nov - invoice update email and emails stating "delivery time may be up to 10 working days".
19th Nov - Case not suitable email (no probs, and thanks for changing the order).
21st Nov - Build number and invoice number, and build date of 7th Dec.
Nothing since.
So where's the problem with the above? Things I'd love to have seen:
1) 17th Nov email saying 10 working days to have been a bit more accurate. We're on 15 working days so far, and it's not been built let alone delivered.
2) Email that came on the 21st to have been at the same time as the Invoice update, or the next working day, not 3-4 days later.
3) More people building them, so they can start much more quickly after the order is placed, 15 working days is a long long time.
Now, if I were a first time customer you could say this was all caused by peak demand, Christmas as is. However this isn't the first. A little under a year ago I bought my first 3XS. The experience above is pretty much as it was then.
I'm ordering a second because they really are great machines at a good price. But its a shame to see the initial comms hasn't improved much, and hence why I temper my enthusiasm, as the track record says I'll be dissapointed otherwise.
I agree with the points you have made above. It seems that you really have to chase them to get an update. However I ordered a great system, have amended it twice with fairly little hassle and all at a good price.
What system specs did you go for?
Asus Sabertooth Z77 MoBo
Intel Core i7 3770K taken to 4.6Ghz with Corsair H100i for cooling
16Gb RAM
2 x 2GB EVGA GTX 680 SC in SLI
240Gb Vertex 4 SSD & 2Tb HDD
Think that's the main bits
I had the same experiences but even more telling was the guy who delivered my computer brought it up with no prompting which i thought wa sa tad weird.
He reckons its a call from the powers above. They know fine well they never deliver by the time they state but refuse to change it as it would look bad. I'd have thought it looks worse to say one date and never stick to it myself.
Edit: Having said that i've been very pleased with the computer itself when i did finally get it.
Without a shadow of a doubt if on the website when you order it tells you it won't be ready for 4 weeks, then their orders would dry up overnight.
No one is that mad. But once you're tied in, money taken and invoice generated (which all happens at the very start), I don't see the point in stringing it all out. As you say, looks worse when you're told porkies. Indeed 4 days in I was given a build date, and it wasn't 10 days away, so whats the harm in that being a bit more accurate and delivered a few days earlier.
I guess the best improvement would be faster turnaround then most of this would be a non-issue, the second best is simply communicating more accurately, promptly and often.
Then again, perhaps they don't know... 7th Dec could have been a guess.
Today is my revised build day (after a delay) and still haven't had any updates yet...
After asking, I've heard that there will be a delay. Currently estimated at 1-2 days. I'll take that with a pinch of salt. Shame really.
Yay -
"Your 3XS system is now at stage 3 out of 11, and being assembled by our professional engineers in Scan's state of the art 3XS labs.
Once your machine has finished build it will be updated with the latest motherboard BIOS and move to stage 4 "Memory Test".
Estimated time to despatch - 4 working days. "
That's great news!!!! So what spec did you order?
Yours is waaay better than mine anyway!!
intel i5 3570 o/c 4.4ghz
ati radeon 7850 2gig
8gig ram
Just something to do me for bf3/warcraft/cod/ etc
That's not bad at all... Certainly better than the 3 legged donkey I'm running on at the moment. Also, don't forget you -will- have yours before me.
