Problem with Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 motherboard and Intel i7 980x

Hi Scan,

I have a problem with the motherboard I bought recently - it looks like it shipped with a BIOS too old to support 6-core CPUs out of the box, and hence doesn't work properly with my 980x. I get BIOS error code "b8" when I switch the board on (which other people/forums tell me is the expected code for this issue). I can't flash the BIOS to update it without a working CPU.

My question is, do I go through you guys for support on this matter, or do I contact Gigabyte directly? Basically, I need to exchange the motherboard for one which is guaranteed to have the latest BIOS.

Bios version can never be guaranteed, we can upgrade the BIOS for you to the latest one for a fee of £10

Hmm, OK. Thanks for the offer, but I think I'll take this up with Gigabyte support directly for now. Frankly, if I buy a board that has this in the specs:



then I expect it to work with my CPU without having to pay extra for the honour.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but do you offer the updates bios on the day i collect the motherboard?

So if I was to buy an x58 motherboard from scan ( come in and pick it up ) you could update it for me there and then?
