    used motherboard recieved in order

i placed an order for a gigabyte ga-p67a-ud3 motherboard over the weekend which i recieved today.

everythingn inside the box (cables, disk etc) was ok, but the motherboard itself seems to have been used. the anti-static bag is crumpled over at the end and the piece of tape which should be holding it shut is not stuck closed (seems strange that it is a piece of tape and not any kind of logo sticker?), when i looked at the board itself, there is thermal paste around the cpu hatch, and no stickers/protective packaging on any of the ports or chips (its been a while since i had a new mobo, but the have had stickers over the various components in the past).

i can see no reason why there would be paste around the hatch unless there has been a cpu and fan attatched to the board? in which case this board cant be "new"?

i am going to be working all week from 9-6, so will not be able to call the helpline inside office hours, and would really rather not wait untill after christmas to get this sorted out, so i am posting here in the hope that someone can help.

    thanks
    chris.

Re: used motherboard recieved in order

    thanks spank,

everything in the video was in the box, but the tape that was cleanly keeping the static bag closed in the video wasnt attatched on mine, and teh bag wasnt sealed, just crumpled shut. also the large piece of pink/red foam on the chip heatsink wasnt present, and as before, the thermal paste was on the cpu hatch.

it is also odd that the board has been removed from the online shop now, which is making me think that they sent me the last one in stock and that it was a return (at best b grade, at worst faulty).

i dont want to plug anything into the board incase it is failty and damages my cpu or something stupid

i guess my plans of having a new pc for christmas are over now.

Get on the phone asap buddy! Pretty sure that is against the law if it was advertised new and they should be jumping through hoops to sort this out for you!

Tbh. I have had the same problem from scan regarding a cpu fan and some ram...

yeah, i would do but im not sure if i'll get much time to do that, i'll have to try during lunch at work tomorrow, but i work in retail and its obviously pretty busy in the run up to christmas, so i dont really fancy spending the only 30 mintes im going to get to take the weight off on the phone.

Are their lines not open until like 8?

I know what retail is like sucky!

But one phone call should be enough!

I believe you can also log a query through their website - I'd do that if you can't phone when they are open.

It is illegal, but PCW have been doing it for years.

If it's the MOBO you wanted & it works, try asking for a refund for some of the cost rather than sending it back & getting a new 1 sent out to you.

    This is a good idea.

But of course plug each piece in bit by bit incase something is wrong so it doesn't fry anything!
