    1tb samsung sata f3 faulty/dead

I bought 2 of these drives from SCAN 06/02/10 and they are both making a loud clicking noise and won't boot up and not showing in the BIOS. I had them in a Dell Studio XPS 435MT that I sold a few months ago and they both seemed to be fine. I put them into a Dell XPS 8300 and thats when the problem began. I was getting an inaccessible boot device error message but now nothing. I sure these had a 3 year warranty when I bought them so any ideas before I rma PLEASE!

use this webpage, since seagate own samsung drives now, input your serial and model off the drive sticker then click on the HELP text button to get an error code ane then see how much warranty you have left.

    Hey mate,

Just FYI, I have the same drives and one of them clicked like buggery when I changed from a 965 board to my first i5 setup. The solution was to flash the drive with a different firmware.

    Re: 1tb samsung sata f3 faulty/dead

    As advised by daveleebond,

We would suggest processing the return directly with Seagate if you suspect the drives are faulty.

Also the advice given by mike306dt is valid as I had exactly the same problem when I connected my F3's to a p67 when it first came out (worked fine before this) Seems early firmware revisions on the drives didn't play nice with the SATA 6gb/s ports on the chipset. Updating the firmware on each drives fixed the problem.

I also tried to put them back into a Dell Precision 370 that they were both in previously and got the same loud clicking and not showing in the BIOS.

Both drives are on way back to Seagate now.

    Thanks for the replies.

Mark - maybe it was you that I spoke to. Whoever it was at scan was supremely helpful. He had the uatx M pro version of my asus board. (P67)

Sounds like me I've since traded up to the Maximus IV GENE-Z... great little board.

    Re: 1tb samsung sata f3 faulty/dead

Apparently there is a compatibility issue with these F3's and the Dell Studio XPS 435MT and XPS 8300. I did have them in the 435MT first with no problems whatsoever. At least I now know that I didn't cause the failure and that a firmware update was required.
