Exclamation Faulty ASUS 7950 DirectCU2 TOP

    Hi,

Three weeks ago I bought an ASUS 7950 DirectCU2 TOP from Scan. On reciept i discovered the card was faulty, displaying masses of artifacts in games and on the windows desktop and causing "cannot reset display adapter" BSOD.

They replaced it and i was happy to recieve my replacement last week.

Unfortunately the new card seems to be faulty also. The symptoms of the problem are not so easy to notice this time and are as follows: Display flickers and artifacts appear infrequently, both at windows desktop and during games(noticed on BF3 and Skyrim), this happens infrequently enough that I didn't notice it on the first day and it has yet to cause a crash.

I would like to know what tests Scan performs to confirm graphics cards are faulty so i can test it myself before sending it to you.

    Thanks in advance, Will.

    Hi Will,

Sorry to hear about the problems with your replacement card.

SCAN test using a number of freely available benchmarks, including Unigine Heaven benchmark, 3DM11, 3DMark Vantage. We also do have BF3 that we can test. As such if you could confirm whether the problem is reproducible in the above tests that would help us to quickly and easily confirm the fault upon return to SCAN.

    Regards

Thank you for your quick response, i am downloading 3dMark and heaven now.

    Edit:
Also i should probably add that the screen looks like h***://youtu.be/RiiV-Ymin_U during boot. That is a video of the previous card but the new one displays exactly the same in this regard.

Re: Faulty ASUS 7950 DirectCU2 TOP

Its a good job i tested it myself! While testing i noticed that the core clock was only at 501MHz and that the card wasn't going into power save mode. Long story short - reinstalled drivers again and it seems to be working properly now.

    Embarrasing...
