    RMA No Fault Found?

    Hi,
I returned 2 ScanFX 2Gb DDR3-1333 as failing memtest on 2 boards all at stock settings that 4 other sticks of the same memory pass.

Scan Returns RMA 267610 Status Notification - Items Received 3:27 PM
Scan Returns RMA 267610 Status Notification - Items Tested, No Fault Found 3:57 PM

Those are headers of emails I received referring this, very short time to test RAM is it not?

Although very good overall processing as posted it yesterday!

The boards the returned RAM fail on are Asus P5G41T-M LX2 GB (purchased from Scan)
and a Gigabyte GA-EP35C-DS3R (rev. 2.1). Both boards test the other 4 sticks fine and other DDR3 RAM (inc corsair & crucial) is fine.

The returned sticks fail with many errors on one stick but fewer errors on the other stick, this is common & repeated to both boards too.

I am curious as to what board and testing methodology you have used to ascertain from receiving, opening, processing then saying both have no fault in only 30 minutes.

I would ask you to test it again, at least in similar hardware if at all possible, or perhaps you can suggest other alternatives you are willing to try? As I do not accept either of those stick are not faulty.
    Thanks

    Re: RMA No Fault Found?

I would add that both setups tested have a 1333FSB CPU.
E6550 on the LX2 and E8500 on the EP35C so runs the RAM natively @ 1333.

I have not tried running it @ lower FSB, which may or may not account for you encountering NFF, depending on your test setup?

Nor do I have current access to the more recent cpu with an integrated memory controller, which again may or may not contribute to different findings.

    Re: RMA No Fault Found?

I have actually received some replies by email, so will share the relevant parts:

"Our current test rigs comprise of modern Intel socket types such as 1155, 1366 and 2011,we only have access to 775 CPU's if this type of motherboard is returned for testing, but we no longer use 775 as part of our test rigs as they are end of life."

"As the memory is nearly 12 months old we are unable exchange or refund this for you."

So, by your own admission you are unable to test this memory in the state its fault exists?

Then you attempt to fob me off by saying its almost 12 months old so bad luck you WONT help me?

The product was under 12 months old at the point of the fault being notified to you.

Irrespective of that the part has more than 12 months warranty.

Even on your OWN PAGE it has 60 month RTB warranty...

Given this fiasco I wish I had dealt with OCZ directly of course. (It's OCZ RAM sold under scanfx banner, at least the 6 ones I received were)

I do not expect to be charged for testing as you say you cannot test it setup in the way it has been notified as having a fault.

As for return of parts hopefully we can work something out and I will return direct to OCZ myself.

    Re: RMA No Fault Found?

    "Details
    Duration: 60 months
    Type: Return to base
    DOA Period: 7 days
    RTB Period: 60 months"

but in the product narrative it's detailed as lifetime I notice:
" Furthermore, each ScanFx memory module is backed by the industry leading Lifetime Warranty and technical support for unparalleled peace of mind."

Rather contradictory to the information I was emailed then?

    Re: RMA No Fault Found?

    Hi,

I will waive the testing/return charge on this occasion as a gesture of goodwill.

You can then process a return directly with OCZ for the memory if you wish. I can confirm the memory has been tested without fault. Whilst I accept the memory has not been tested in a 775 socket motherboard we do not and cannot guarantee the compatibility of the memory in your motherboard.

    Regards

    Re: RMA No Fault Found?

    Hi Mark,
    Thank you very much.

I will raise an RMA directly with OCZ upon receipt of these modules.

OK compatibility is one thing, but 4 other of the same module work without fault in two seperate S775 setups, yet these two module fail in both of those system using the same (default) settings as the other 4 module pass (all tested individually).

Anyway thanks again for the gesture and for all the testing/responding.
