Problem with MSI X79A-GD65-8D and Intel i7 3820 CPU

I received my order and built my new system yesterday but on attempting to turn the computer on i get a constant debug LED cycle of 19 - 60/bo - FF.

Upon reading the manual and not getting much information from the error code descriptions i searched the net and found that the Motherboard i have purchased requires BIOS Version 7760v15 or later in order to recognize the Intel i7 3820 CPU. Sadly the Motherboard has shipped with an earlier BIOS Version than is required in order for me to use the CPU i have purchased.

So at the moment i am stuck with a setup that will not work because i cannot turn the system on to update the BIOS.

The motherboard came in a bundle with the thermaltake frio cooler, i wonder if i would have had this issue if id have just bought the Motherboard separately ? perhaps the motherboards in this bundle are from older stock ?

The only way i can fix this issue is to have the Motherboards BIOS flashed with Version 7760v15 or later but i of course cannot do that myself so do i send it back to scan and they can do it ? or does it need to be sent to MSI.

If the board needs to be sent to MSI and will take an extended period of time is it possible instead to return the Motherboard/Frio cooler bundle and replace it with the same motherboard that has already been updated to 7760v15 or later ?

Any help would be great, ask if any further details are needed.

    Thank you

I think SCAN, can probably do it. You will need to open a ticket with them to confirm this though.
Is there not a quick flash function on the mobo? A quick read seems to suggest it has some sort of BIOS function that runs over USB, maybe that's a possibility.

I downloaded the latest BIOS version for this motherboard and put it onto my USB stick, sadly the computer does not load far enough to recognize the usb drive.

The computer is only on for roughly 10s~

5s cycle of 19-60/bo error codes on internal LED debug then a 5s stall and an auto restart.

Without a processor that will work you won't be able to flash it so you are in a catch22 situation unless you can borrow a processor from a mate to use to flash the board.

Just a quick question if anyone at scan can get an answer for me.

The original email i received said to send the motherboard and the CPU back to scan but the email i have received today with my RMA number only states to return the motherboard. So am i sending one or both.

I did ask this question when i replied to Gareth but i did not receive an answer, also do i need to add a small note in order to get both bios's flashed since its a dual bios Mobo or will that be obvious.

    Psycosi,

If the motherboard is coming back for a bios update we only need that item back, if you want to send the CPU back we can test this for you for peace of mind once the bios has been updated.

    Kind regards,

Thanks for the fast reply Mick, if all that is required is the motherboard then ill just send that back. Im sure the CPU should function normally once the BIOS has been updated.
