Exclamation Asus P8Z77-V Pro CPU Pin missing

    Hi guys

I've just installed my motherboard into my case and put the last of my thermal compound on my cpu. As I took the cover off the cpu bay I noticed the pins were bent? UPDATE - They aren't bent that's how they are meant to be... sorry. So I put the cpu in and I get a red light for cpu. I've actually looked a little closer and it seems like there is a pin missing - unless it's meant to be like that?!?!?! Unless it's the cpu but I doubt it as it was handled properly.

Gutted something is faulty and it's Saturday....

Will I have to wait till Monday to get this replaced or can I come in this afternoon to swap the motherboard over?

    Thanks

    Mark

Not the best pic but you can see bottom middle...

I've highlighted what I think is the missing pin... if I'm correct it will explain why the cpu light on the motherboard is coming on I'm guessing.

Awesome. It's missing then! I will go into Scan on Monday and take it back.

I need to buy a graphics card too so I can maybe pick one of them up at the same time

    Thanks for posting the image.

Re: Asus P8Z77-V Pro CPU Pin missing

Is a missing socket pin a common thing with boards straight after being bought?

Just getting a little worried now re my CPU. This wouldn't cause my CPU to die would it?

    Thanks

Re: Asus P8Z77-V Pro CPU Pin missing

    Just an update.

The motherboard now has a void warranty due to the missing pin. It's being sent to Asus to sort the socket costing £25.

I've had to buy a new motherboard to get my system up and running. Thankfully all is working after a bit of touch and go!

Will sell the Asus P8Z77-V Pro once I get it back if anyone is after a bargain??

Scan - once I receive this back from Asus I presume it would have been tested etc, will it have any sort of warranty on it? Surely once the socket has been fixed then my 12 months warranty will still apply through Asus at least?

    markbrown83,

Providing that Asus can repair the motherboard, once received back it will be tested by Scan before it is dispatched to you, the motherboard will still carry its full 3 year warranty.

    Kind regards,

    markbrown83,

I have chased this for you and the information I have shows that the motherboard is currently with the suppliers, I cannot be specific on time scales at the moment but we should have a clearer indication towards the end of this week.

    Kind regards,

Excellent. I presume it has been fixed then? Did they just replace the socket?

    markbrown83,

The suppliers have not been that specific, we should find out once the replacement board has been received.

Cheers for the relatively quick RMA.

I do have one question. Now that I have my original board back I have a spare one! It's not even a month old. If I was to sell this is the warranty transferable?

    Thanks

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

Warranty is none transferable I am afraid.

That is not to say we would not honour the warranty on the board, it's just you would have to request the RMA on the behalf of the person you sell it on to should they ever have any problems with the board.

    Regards

No worries. Cheers. That's probably what I will do or keep the board for when I build my girlfriend a machine early next year!
