    Rma: 290848

    Hi Scan,

Not a personal purchase but work related, so will be under a company name.

Gigabyte motherboard that was DOA. Powered up, but nothing else. Checked everything and the usuals, all other components worked, and are still working perfectly in a different board, and I see today you have rejected the RMA.

    Care to explain why?
After recommending Scan to one of the directors after faultless service over the years should I be regretting that?

    Thanks.

    Re: Rma: 290848

You contacted them through the ticket/RMA system about the failure? You should probably include something to id the order as well, invoice number/RMA number otherwise it's looking for the old needle.

To submit a thread in this section you have to supply an invoice number...
Plus I would be worried if they couldn't identify this by the RMA number!

My boss was doing the direct contact route, but I thought I'd try here. Plus as it was me who recommended the company it's falling on my shoulders. Would be nice to actually get a response soon as otherwise not entirely sure what purpose the scan subforums are here!

    Re: Rma: 290848

    Hi,

The board was tested and found to be working, please see notes from engineer who tested below:

"Displaying fine, boot menu shows the board was displaying at some point, looks like a BIOS setting was at fault. Flashed to latest revision, no issues."

A refund was requested however the board was returned incomplete (missing I/O shield) if you can return the missing I/O shield under the RMA we can process a refund for the board for you.

    Regards

    Re: Rma: 290848

Meant to update this sooner, have bounced multiple emails back and fourth with next to no luck.

The missing I/O shield must have been misplaced here that's fine if the board is working now we opted to have it back.

What I'm FAR from happy from is the charge.

The board was DOA to us, it wouldn't even get as far as the BIOS it literally did nothing.
Using a range of fully verified and working hardware, no difference at all. The same result everytime...
If we were able to get the board into a state where we could have updated the BIOS we would have done.

As far as I'm concerned the charge is not acceptable. But given the choice of either paying £30+VAT for the return or loosing it completely what choice do I have?

I certainly feel like an idiot recommending Scan, and I'll certainly have to think hard about using you again.

    Re: Rma: 290848

    Guy,

The bios was updated at Scan as part of the service, however it was not required for the machine to boot. Our engineers simply attached the required components and the motherboard posted first time.

The charges made are to cover the collection, testing and returns carriage of your item which you were made aware of when the collection was offered.

    Kind regards,

A lot of the times that these kind of 'failures' happen is when installing the standoffs aren't connected correctly or you have used too many standoffs in the wrong places.
Common if you replaced the mobo in a old case that may of had different standoffs.

Guy is more than capable of building a PC so this is something he definitely wouldn't have missed.

Maybe, but we all have our moments and as Scan seem to have proved that it boots etc then must be something local effecting it.
