Replacement RMA SSD is not new and has a used W7 install and data on it!

I presume this is an error, but when a hard drive is replaced under RMA, should I not receive a new drive?

The replacement drive I received was a 512GB Crucial MX100 SSD as expected and agreed, but instead of having the normal Crucial sealing sticker / label with serial numbers, etc, it was just a yellow ESD warning sticker (like you get inside).

Having now plugged this into my PC, I discover that it really isn't a new drive and actually is a used drive and has a full Windows 7 install with a "Paul" user account on it and drivers for an Asus motherboard

As of tomorrow (Monday 4th), I'll be out of the UK working for two weeks, but can probably arrange for this drive to be picked up. I can PM further information if required (unique number above the Scan LN / warranty sticker, serial number of the SSD, etc).

I'd never trust a W7 install that wasn't carried out on the PC I'm using though - combination of not knowing what nasties could be on there, and the fact the drivers are all wrong. So I can't really take it as a positive.

What worries me most is how much a mix-up this could be. I wonder who this Paul is...

    tfboy,

I am sorry to hear about the issues you are having, that drive should not have been sent as a warranty replacement, I have informed the department responsible to ensure that this is not repeated in the future, I will email across RMA details and arrange a collection and exchange for you.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Mick,

Thanks for checking into this. I've received the RMA emails so will package this up and arrange for the collection.

Just so I know, should the drive I receive be a refurbished Crucial MX100 or a new one? I had the impression when the RMA was first organised as a remplacement for my faulty OCZ Vector that the drive would be a new one.

    KR,
    Xavier

    tfboy,

You should receive a new unit rather than a refurbished one on this occasion.
