Vista Ultimate Edition Retail 32 only ??

    Hello,

I was browsing through your online catalog of Vista products.

you have all the Vista products marked as 32bit only with instructions on how to to get the 64 bit DVD. Initial notes from microsoft suggested that ultimate edition retail would come with both 32 and 64 bit editions.

Could you clarify and explain the process to obtain 64 bit editions.

    thank you.

I ordered the Retail version of Vista Ultimate from Scan and it got both the discs 32bit and 64bit.

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=527312

From what I understand you need to install 32bit first then use the 2nd disc (with 64bit) to upgrade it.

the information we have from MS is... ( taken from the product overview )

"Please note 64-Bit Edition DVD is not included in this package. Only the 32-Bit edition DVD is supplied in the box. Information on obtaining 64-Bit edition is included in this package."

To upgrade the 64Bit you pay a nominal shipping charge.

I don't see why Microsoft don't offer a free download of the dvd .iso to be honest, you can't use it without a key anyway, and it's less hassle for the end user.

It's just shocking. Even the cost of sticking it on another DVD and including it in the same package. So much for the big push from the top for x64...

Even the above suggestion would have annoyed me, but to actually have to pay extra - that's appalling.

With regards to Ultimate, and I can't confirm this is the same for Scan, but another etailer had both x86 and x64 included in the Ultimate Retail package only - the other variations (HP, HB, Business) only included the x86 as has been mentioned. Probably fair to assume it's the same for all (r)etailers, but I'm not going to be held responsible - this was just the case elsewhere [don't shoot me Scan, you didn't have the Logitech G25 in stock ].

The retail version of Vista Ultimate includes discs for both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

The OEM version of Vista Ultimate only includes disc for either 32-bit version or 64-bit version, depending on which version you buy.

Defenestration - exactly all other sites say ultimate reatil contains both disks, yet scans ultimate retail description (quoted by ChrisP above) says it doesn't

Have scan got the wrong description or are scan running a different deal.

I'd be a little dissapointed if no-one at scan has checked this and just quoted me their website - which I have read and is the reason I'm asking the question and asking for personal action from scan to confirm this.

    Hence why I'd like clarification

1.) Is the scan description of the retail product correct - you do only get the one 32bit disc
2.) Why is this different from all other outlets I've seen

I'd appriciate a definitive answer as this will effect the place I purchase from.

Are you saying my 2nd disc is just a pdf on it then?!? No it doesnt!

Ok Ikonia you can't read its been said twice now here by people who have the retail set that it got both disks. The 2nd disk got 64bit one on it. Scans description is just odd, and yes I bought mine from Scan!

With respect, Ikonia is being perfectly reasonable - this thread was asking Scan for official clarification. As much trust as you may put into the opinions of forum users, it's perfectly valid to wait for an official response when that was what he was asking for.

It's also something I'd like to know

From the MS website (at the bottom of the page)

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...ons/64bit.mspx

    64-bit DVD

If you bought Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, or Business as a retail, packaged product, and you would like a DVD of 64-bit software media to install on your PC, please choose your language:

Note: 64-bit media is included in the box with Windows Vista Ultimate.
    Emphasis added by me.
