So im just about to pull the trigger......

On this soon to be media centre build:
    Intel Core 2 Duo E2160, Socket 775, 1.8 GHz, 800MHz FSB, Conroe Core, 2x 512KB Cache, Retail

    Abit Fatal1ty F-I90HD ATI, S775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 667/800

SilverStone 'SUGO' Evolution SG01B Black Case w/o PSU

    Silverstone SST-NT06 Lite

    430w Seasonic S12II-430 aPFC PSU Silent ATX2.0 *New v2
Plus some sort of PCIe Dual Digital TV Tuner, but which? Probably Terratec new or a second hand black gold??

    Already have:

for about £1 less you can get PC5400 but have 2GB instead of just 1GB?

I did wonder about this, but wasnt sure. Will a media centre really need 2gb? Wont the PC-6400 work better?

Why is it impossible to edit or post quick replies? It just keeps loading forever but change/post doesnt happen EDIT: and now it works...

Anyway I wanted to add this:

The cpu you have chosen only requires RAM to run at 400mhz (PC3200) to run natively, are you really going to be able to overlock that much that you can get the RAM speed upto 800mhz (PC6400)?

Even running 1:1 getting to 667mhz (PC5400) on the RAM is going to be an insane overclock if your motherboard doesn't kill itself in the process.

Edit: Ram speed makes little difference at all, RAM size can make massive differences. I don't know about that CPU but for one like mine the E6600 having PC6400 is pointless unless you want overclock heavily as the difference between simply running PC5400 and PC6400 is completely unoticeable. Keep in mind too that the E6600 has a higher FSB too and therefore can take more advantage of RAM speed vs the CPU you want.

Im not planning on overclocking at all, maybe ive been slightly mislead by the fsb speeds. Does that mean i could even drop down to say 1Gb of PC2-4200 with no problem? PC3200 is expensive

Might as well go for the 2Gb of PC-5400 then based on those prices (Its cheaper than the 4200!)

    Thanks!

Forget PC3200 that only comes in DDR form I think which means it wouldn't even fit your motherboard which is DDR2.
PC4200 is now old and is infact more expensive than PC5400 RAM.

    You should just get http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=291363

Umm did I miss the obsious??? There seems to be no form of graphics out on that setup.
I had a look at the Terratec tv card and that only has an aerial in.
And that motherboard has no on board graphics.

So have I missed something? or did you?

sugestion, 256MB Asus 8500GT, Silent, D-Sub/DVI-I/HDTV £62.26 as HD decodeing is the only thing that the 8600/8500 does well
