Paradox what res did you play farcry on , cos with it being such an old game is it really gonna stress that card enough unless its at some insane resolution ?

I think what pands has offered seems like a good idea - not gonna cost you anything extra as its all part of the testing process to determine your fault.

    Hi pands,

Yeah that would be really good of you. XP32, any forceware you like, in a closed case.

By "looping" Far Cry does that mean you're running a demo that repeats itself? If so, cool. I don't know what demos come with Far Cry if at all, but if you could choose one that has plenty of action in it, whatever you feel is most stressful.

One time I had Far Cry running and I was just standing still in the game. I left the PC for about half an hour and the game was still running when I came back; then I started to play and move around, shoot etc - 5 mins later it locked up.

Could you also set the overall quality level to the far right in the nVidia control panel so that it's running on max quality, and could you also change all of Far Cry's settings to max detail on everything and the highest resolution possible (just in case you don't do that anyway).

If you could run that overnight that would be very kind of you - thanks for offering your assistance!
I guess if this test doesn't show the fault, the problem must lie elsewhere.

    Cheers again pands!

This is the strange thing, I realise it's an older game and it runs very fast on this card. I play at 1680x1050 which is the native resolution of my monitor. In spite of it being an "easy task" for this graphics card it seems to make the card freeze a lot easier than any other game I've played on it.

    YES!!!

    I feel like hugging someone.

Way to go, pands - thankyou SO MUCH for spending the extra time on me. So happy I chose Scan now!

Will I receive the new card tomorrow?

Today is a great day, my sister just received her new Dell computer and she's having a great time unpacking it and setting it up. This news just makes me that much happier.

    Cheers guys!

Great news! Glad to hear you'll be getting a new card.

As for Scan, I think this post outlines Scan's incredible customer service. Imagine going to any other retailer and asking them to run specific tests to determine the fault. Really impressive I must say. Makes me even more committed to buying from Scan in the future.

Yeah, most retailers wouldn't give it a second look once it was found to be "faulty"... Scan work with the customer... good work guys

    Lovely job Paradox and Scan,

Looks like the XP test on a "real" 3d game did the trick.

So do send My XFX Ultra XXX back now for a similar test.......................

Gotta feel sorry for pands@Scan, having to sit there playing a game for all those hours until it broke, I mean, 8 hours of gaming at work, who'd wanna do that!
