So is this akasa not so good?

I think it's OK. It's just not a runaway winner. If you can fit one of the big towers in your case, and your mobo accepts it, you will get better cooling with less noise.
Top coolers in most cases: Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme, Tuniq 120 and any of the Scythe Infinity/Ninja/Mine. But if you have something like the Antec 900, which has more airflow than a small typhoon, then other HSFs perform very well.
Check out the reviews here and on Anandtech to see how much difference a case can make.
Ill most probably go with the Thermalright ultra extreme now. Didn't realise Anandtech review their cpu fans with my mobo anyway so i guess it'll go fine in it. just hope itll clear my case too!
Have some of that
At the moment I'm sporting a Thermaltake Minityp 90 and I can vouch for that,
its not expensive and cools like a bewt
got my CPU to 42c at 100% usage
I have an Akasa 965 cooling a Q6600 (B3) and it is VERY quiet, while pottering around Windows it is literally whipser quiet and in games it revs up a bit but not really enough you can hear it over the game.I went for the akasa 965 - wish I could tell you the results but I'm waiting for a G0 Q6600 to test it.
Other good points, it is very light (relatively), pretty good build quality and packing (no fins bent, feels pretty solid) and reasonably easy to fit (would suggest starting from one of the pushpins under the fan, then do diagonal opposite, then do the other under the fan, then diagonal opposite again), for the money I'm impressed
Temps around 35 - 40 idle, 40 - 50 load (Akasa Mirage-62, 2x 120mm Antec Pro intake DB, 1x 120mm Akasa Amber).
How much is the Akasa 965, about 12-14 quid isn't it on Scan or Ebuyer?
the Zalman CNPS range work pretty well tbh but are actually quite costly for what they are. If you can get hold of a thermalright ultra xtreme or a tuniq-tower, thats the best bet - but hard to source in the uk ofc :S
I got a Thermaltake BigTyp 120 VX (for £23 through Amazon) and can confirm it is quiet (on low fan speed) and has monster airflow through it. Will test it with the Q6600 as soon as I can get a G0 version...

I was wondering whether or not i should get a fan for the thermalright as the the position of the heatsink will get flow from the top an rear fans on the back of the P182. just thought id see what others say about this
Have some of that
Yes, get a fan to blow towards the back of the case if possible.
Good fans: Yate Loons (but hard to get hold of), Scythe S-Flex, Antec Tricool (3-speed adjustable), Sharkoon Golfballs. Unless you have a noisy PC already or don't care, get a 120mm fan, 1600 rpm max (or a controller).
It is strange, but under testing, the down blowing fans, which seem to have the advantage of blowing air nearer to the cpu itself and spreading air across other vital parts of the system, are LESS effective! Thus far the tower based coolers blowing towards the back of the case are most effective. imo, this is a because the hsf works in tandem with case airflow rather against thus limiting the vortecies created about the hsf. Keeping your airflow directional seems to be the way to go...
£10.56 from the today only (fri - sun) page at scan or £12.33 normally. Ebuyer I don't know. How much is the Akasa 965, about 12-14 quid isn't it on Scan or Ebuyer?

Question:
Should coolers like the akasa be pointed rearwards or vertically?
And if you are using one of these side blowing hsf does the airflow still benefit from the TAC tube or side case fan or for the sake of airflow would no side case vents be an advantage?
Cooler like Akasa 965 should be positioned so that the fan blows air over the heatsink and out of the rear exhaust. Blowing it into the power supply is not recommended.
Hi,
I'm really happy with the akasa - Idle temp at 29C on a G0 Q6600 and it is quiet .... but big.
