    AMD chip on Gigabyte board

I'm not really up on AMD sockets & CPU's (loving my Intel quad core at the minute ) but I also have another PC with a Gigabyte GA-K8N51GMF-9-RH running a socket 939 AMD X2 CPU (4200+)

Checking on the Scan site, I only see one single 939 processor, the one I already have

Is this it for the Gigabyte board or can it run the newer AM2 chips as well??? I've tried looking on the Gigabyte site but unless I missed the appropriate page for the motherboard, it only seems to mention 939 socket chips ...

S939 & AM2 CPUs use different sockets & as such are incompatible.
Just overclock your x4200+ a little if it's too slow.

It is possible your motherboard may support 939 Opterons of course ... check for compatibility.

Bearing in mind AMD prohibit all board manufacturers from advertising Opteron support on anything but server boards, this will likely prove to be a fruitless exercise

Alternatively, I've yet to hear of an S939 board that couldn't use an S939 Opteron.
