    motherboard or ram poss problem....

    hi

ordered a lovely gigabyte P35C DS3R mobo from scan and it came and all set up fine.

i have 2 gig of GEIL ultra low latency ram on it

    an E6300 processor.

what it does is every so often when i boot up my pc the blue screen of death comes up, sometimes with stuff - numbers ewtc - and sometimes with nowt.

could it be a ram issue?

updated bios via @bios utility on giga cd rom or could it be ram?

Have you just swap the motherboard out with this new one?

if the ram timings are too tight or frequency too high
you dont say if u overclock?

Also have u set the voltage to 2.1v or what is it running at?

Re: motherboard or ram poss problem....

this is a new mobo and ram setup last month, i had a asrock and kingston 667 before.

i havent overclocked, all settings are default. i want to o/c, well, try to but my processor is locked if that makes a difference.

voltage is default. i'm not sure if i should alter it? is default 1.8 and i make it plus0.3 v in bios, i did see that setting?

You seem to make it out like you didn't reinstall the OS for the new motherboard? Because that would be the problem.

usually it is. try raising by +0.1v and test it

you can try orthos to stability test dual core cpu & memory under windows
memtest to make boot cd/usb and test independently of windows.
cpuz to check values in windows too
(there are others you can find as well, these 3 are easy and small, good for someone starting out diagnosis)

    sorry, its a bad post.

i have re-installed vista twice since then and once again on sat as it was doing funny things. seems ok now and i'll do the voltage thing.

i'll do that othos test to. see if its a fault with components.

"GEIL ultra low latency ram "
is that 4-4-4-12 or the 3-3-3-8?

can u just clarify what timings are being used from BIOS/windows?
If its the 3-3-3 one, it may be more sensitive to voltage/timing than the 4-4-4?
I have the 4-4-4 RAM and its usually picked up as 5-5-5 @ 2T on GA boards (965/945).

And ur blue screening is an intermittent issue?

Re: motherboard or ram poss problem....

its the 4-4-4-12 ram. i think under my bios it may be default and i think its 5-5-5-15 but i didn't know which bits to alter.

the blue screen of death is intermitant. i seem to recall it saying that its a memory problem on the bottom but could be wrong. i'll alter some things later on today.

Re: motherboard or ram poss problem....

For GA boards, in the BIOS its CTRL+F1 to see the memory timings option.

do try memtest as well, it might save some messing about

in cpu-z it says my timing are:

    5
    5
    5
    18
    fsb/sdram: 2:3
    command 2T
