    Cool ASUS 8800GT Warning

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

Just to warn people. ASUS have redesigned their card and that picture in the link above is nothing like whats in the box. The card in the box needs alot more space and if you have a shuttle or other SFF the card won't fit.

Scan have accepted the RMA but the chap I spoke to seemed to think that this was _MY_ fault for picking the wrong card and picture where for illustrative purposes only?!?!! WTF is it illustrating?

this is what the actual card looks like:

I suggest you update the site.

    Re: ASUS 8800GT Warning

That is interesting - it looks as though it will be much cooler and quieter
Looking at the Asus site it looks the same as the 256MB cards which are claimed to run 14 deg cooler than the standard.
But the 512MB cards are still shown as the Scan site

Have noted that, very useful picture.
Obviously I have not been party to what each side has said, but from what you have written i think it's quite reasonable for Scan to accept and RMA without grumbles.
    Maybe a misunderstanding?

Well i have seen an identical picture on another etailer forum and it states that THE card was bought from them.

To be fair though, the card is FAR from pleasing on the eye.
It reminds me of the old Ti4600's or even worse the FX5200 :O

Identical as in the same card, or identical as in it's literally the same jpg?

Assuming we are talking about the same etailer forum (spit) it doesn't say that it was bought from them

To be honest, wherever to buy from, 99.9% of the time images are for illustrative purposes only and it's up to you to check with the manufacturer before buying. However I do agree that ideally it would be better if all the pictures on the web were correct.

well in the pc market, 99.9% of the images are what we get. don't see why they should start changing it now.

IMO, unless the page specifically says for illustration purposes only the picture should be spot on, or it shouldn't be there.

IMO in this case, accurate picture is important because the default cooler is single slot as shown, but if the person ordered the card and only has space for single slot, then a dual slot cooler won't be any use.
