Corsair HX520 PSU - Continous clicking noise...

Hi, i've recently built a new rig and everything runs great apart from the PSU.

Basically it runs great apart from the continous clicking noise that it emits, it seems to vary on noise levels when i move the power cord around a little, which isnt good at all

I've found a couple of other forum posts about this fault too, seems to be a manufacturing fault and their passing through QC somehow... I can provide links if need be.

How do i go about an RMA to replace this unit?

    Cheers.

If it is less than one year old, return to SCAN, login to your account and you can send RMA ticket.

If it is older than a year, you might be better off buying a new unit because you need to send to USA for RMA

Re: Corsair HX520 PSU - Continous clicking noise...

I didn't know that!! I've been recommending them regardless of having to send them back to the states.

this is why we love you scan

I had the clicking problem with my VX450w. I shinned a torch in and could see the braiding on the power cable clipping the fan. I just pushed it back with pencil or screwdriver and it was fine.
It seems like a lot of bother to RMA it if thats the problem but each to their own..

Re: Corsair HX520 PSU - Continous clicking noise...

I've been recommending the HX series and have been mentioning in the forums that Scan seem to be the only retailer to cover the PSUs on the five year return to base, whereas with other retailers you've got to post it to the USA for RMA. I see that people are only taking notice now of Scan's service on the PSU.

Any particular reason for recommending the HX520 over the VX550 other than the modular cables.

Re: Corsair HX520 PSU - Continous clicking noise...

I've used both. The HX has slightly higher quality casing and genrerally feels like a more expensive unit.

That said, both have very good silent fans and are very good overall. VX are single rail if that affects your decision.

Re: Corsair HX520 PSU - Continous clicking noise...

The clicking is often related to the input voltage of your main's being too high - I've seen this issue first hand in a system I built.
My mains is 235V (should be 230V), but is well within tolerance levels. When I hooked the unit up to a regulated power supply with an input voltage of 229V the problem vanished

I'm not saying this *is* the cause of your issue, but its been known to happen
