Anyone own a Synology DS107+ NAS?

I was just wondering anyone had purchased one of these NAS devices (code LN18899) from SCAN...

After a bit of research, I'm about to make a purchase, but are just trying to confirm the specs of the unit.

I always thought they were 500MHz units with 128MB RAM, according to the Synology website, there are two versions one 64MB and the other 128MB.

Can anyone possibly confirm which version is sold by SCAN?

    Many thanks.

...Sorry for the lack of links, I'm only a noob and not got 5 posts under my belt yet.

I got the 207+ and can confirm that's 500MHz and 128MB, at least my particular one is. I'd try the synology websites forum for a deifinitive answer

    synology.com /enu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=4052

(edit the link, I too have less than 5 posts!)
but it really does appear to be unclear. Once you have one you can easily find out, but until then it seems to be a lottery. I'd expect that scan have the 128MB versions in though.

I can recommend the 207+ though if you can stretch to it. I have a 106e as well which is single disk, still very good but I like the mirrored disk safety of the 207+.

Re: Anyone own a Synology DS107+ NAS?

Thanks for your reply - much appreciated.

I'm in two minds as on one hand I have the Synology device which I'm not 100% sure about the specs of, but can buy from my trusted source, and a QNAP unit for a few quid more, guaranteed specs, from a company I've not deal with before. I'm leaning towards the Qnap if I'm honest!

Thanks for the advice on the two hard drive front - the content that I will be storing will be backed up else where, so I'm going for the cheaper/smaller option.

    Thanks again.

<edit>I'd thank you, but I think I'm too much of a noob for that feature too!

No problem, I don't know how to thank people myself either

I've no experience with the QNap, but it might be worth comparing Gbit ethernet speeds between the two. My 207+ gives me around 25MB/sec reading and 14MB/sec writing, I was expecting to get the full speed of a SATA drive out of this unit, but it's nowhere near. It depends what you use it for really. Could be the deciding factor if the QNap is a lot faster?

Re: Anyone own a Synology DS107+ NAS?

In a slight/total turn around, I've put an order in for the Synology unit.

Looking on site's like smallnetbuilder, I would say the Qnap device has slightly better performance, but there's very little in it.

Will report back on which model arrives next week.

For anyone who is in the same boat - the unit that arrived was a 128MB version.

I think there was a review on these at X-bit labs the other day.
