    Low profile 8400GS?

    Hi Scan folks.

A mate of mine is in the market for a card that will fully accelerate HD content, but it needs to be low profile to fit his case.

I've seen this card on the site, which looks low profile. The overview states it is, but the tech specs state it isn't.

Can you please confirm which it is?

Also, are you able to confirm which core is in the card? The G98 core seems to be the one that offers the best in terms of HD decoding out of all the Nvidia cards.

    Thanks guys,

    Niall

    Re: Low profile 8400GS?

The issue lies with the fact that even though the card IS low profile in that the PCB is low profile, the part which is causing the issue is the bracket as this is full-sized.

However, we do stock replacement bracket kits which work with most graphics cards and these can be located at the following link Here

However for the best compatibility we would recommend using an XFX based card with the bracket kit.

As for the core model number is there a way of seeing which it is without opening and plugging inthe card to check as most packaging is void of this information.

    Best Regards,

I did see a Lo Profile one somewhere, that included a lo and regular bracket

Here, search for this, but it might not fit the price requirement

    Best Regards,
Aye, fair point on the braket - as you say, easy to fix. No idea about the core model I'm afraid, might just go straight to the manufacturer for that.

I'll take a peek at XFX as well. I have a feeling that by using a low pfile bracket he'll lose the dual graphics output functionality?

I'll take a peek at that thanks, only prob is he got a low spec CPU and the 8600 doesn't full decode VC-1, so I'm unsure if it'll cope well with VC-1 eoncded content.
