    Xigmatek S1283 exact height?

I'm looking to order that CPU cooler within a few days but I'm scared of the height. It's measured at 159, but is that from the very bottom mount to the uppermost pipe or what?

Putting a ruler to the bottom of my motherboard to the edge of my case I get about 165mm so I'm unsure if it'll fit

If I do order it and it doesn't fit am I SOL or would they accept a return or anything?

    Re: Xigmatek S1283 exact height?

Just dug out one im going to be putting in my next build and I can confirm that the measurement of 159mm is from the plate that sits on the cpu to the very tip of the heatpipes that stick out the top of the fins by about 9mm.

    Hope that helps.

    Re: Xigmatek S1283 exact height?

I am not certain it will fit rabid as you still have to allow for the thickness of the 775 socket on the motherboard and the processor itself from what you've described. Unfortunately my current build is a socket 939 etc.. so I cant guess at the clearence needed for your system.
Given what you've said about measuring from the bottom of the motherboard, the flat surface of the motherboard? if so that would only give you 6mm to play with for the socket and processor itself. I think you need to be very careful.

Sorry i cant help further since I can only tell you the measurements of the heatsink itself.

    Regards

    Re: Xigmatek S1283 exact height?

Yeah it's from the very flat of the mobo. My case is windowed too so I might have to knock like 3mm off for the side panel :S.

Anyone know if it was pressing against the side panel, causing a flex would it be likely to reduce cooling?

And my sidepanel pushs on not slides, so I'll probably be able to get it on just it might flex.

Theres this as an alternative Akasa AK-965
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

Highly rated here Akasa AK-965 Intel Core 2 Duo Heatsink Review - FrostyTech.com

I can confirm its 139mm from top of cpu to very top of heatpipe ends (I just measured mine). Also from what use I put it to its very good cooler, quiet and effective.

    Re: Xigmatek S1283 exact height?

I think he wants to know how high it reaches from the motherboard, not from the top of the CPU, as that cannot easily be measured by him if he has a cooler already on his cpu.
True height then is gonna be 159mm + the height of the CPU/CPU casing unit.
This would be an easier measurement to deal with as one could just measure with a ruler from the surface of their motherboard to the inside of the case, to gage if this cooler will actually fit !!!

As bcsbcs has s939, does anyone have one of these coolers installed with s775 who can make the measurement (from surface of motherboard)

Could compromise and get the 90mm version?

This guy is right, I have an LG775 and have a stock cooler installed atm. I can only accuratly measure from the mobo, not from the actual CPU holder.

I wish they would give the true height, not the height + the CPU housing. As I might just be able to nail it, if the height of the CPU caseing isn't very big but I can't be exact.

How on earth companies expect you to accuratly measure I have no idea.
