    Edimax 7128g wireless card

Recently I ordered from you all the items to make up a system, motherboard, cpu, memory, psu, disks, operating system and after your advice the above wireless card.

You told me that it was compatible with Vista 64bit. As it is delivered it is not as one needs to download the latest driver from edimax which I did.

Everything appeared to be working ok except for the following.

    1. The system would for no apparent reason lock up requiring a restart

    2. When trying to attach say a picture to an email or send one via an IM again the system would lock
    up.

    3. When having put the sytem to sleep or on a cold boot one would get the error message
"Edimax card not there", and Vista needs to reload the correct drivers.

I tried various possibilities to see what was causing this, initially blaming Vista. Finally I have found
the cause to be the Edimax card itself. I connected my PC via cabling from my router and none of the above problems has been evident over the last few days. Re-installing the Edimax card we are back to square one again. I have tried two different routers same occurrence with both so the Edimax is definitely the cause. Now my question is what do I do about a wireless card recommended and sold by yourselves that is now surplus to requirements?

    Thanks

    Re: Edimax 7128g wireless card

    Hello!

I signed up to Hexus JUST because I saw this forum. I've been searching the internet for anyone who has had a similar problem and fix. A lot of folks on newegg said they have had these issues with 64 bit as well.... others with 64bit say they haven't had any.

I've read somewhere that it could be linked to system memory (can't handle 4 gigs of RAM, and get's worse with 8 gigs). I'm not too sure how factual this is.

Anyway, I have the very same issues that you have. I am using Vista Ultimate 64bit. Crashes when trying to use attachments in emails, frequent restarts, etc. I've got it too. I have tried many different drivers (Rosewill, Ralink, and Edimax). They all feature the same chipset.

Currently I am using the drivers from Ralink (RT 256x/RT266x Driver Ver. 2.1...hopefully I posted this right) as they have been giving me the best signal.

    Re: Edimax 7128g wireless card

Having spoken with Edimax they are asking for you to try this driver http://www.ralinktech.com.tw/data/dr...7_0.1.0.29.exe

Since people have installed this there have been no reports of instability.

I have been using this very same driver, and it has been giving me issues too. It has been giving me the best signal though.

    Re: Edimax 7128g wireless card

This driver is the one I got off the Edimax site and has been proven to not work reliably. Interesting that Wannabenerd has read it may have something to do with system memory size, seems a bit of a dilemma then a 64 bit driver screws up 4GB or above
Wannabenerd did you have the same problem trying to wake up your system?

    Re: Edimax 7128g wireless card

I haven't had a problem waking up my system anymore. I was having problems in the past, but that was before I got wireless internet.

I have a Gigabyte motherboard and my friend has an Asus motherboard and we both had the same problem. We think it has something to do with Vista.

Anyway, we figured out that you can't wake it up through any input devices (mouse, keyboard, etc.), but you had to wake up by pressing the power button. It works fine that way, though it is annoying. The slightest touch to your mouse or keyboard will wake it right up again if you're not careful, so I wouldn't put it to sleep at all.

    Re: Edimax 7128g wireless card

Re the waking up its quite configerable via Vista, and since I switched to cabled on this one PC have had no problems. What I would like now is an answer from Scan as to what they propose to do about a wireless card that obviouysly does not do what it says on the tin.

    Cheers

    Re: Edimax 7128g wireless card

    bump lol

    Any luck?

Even if it means buying new hardware?

I just bought an Edimax signal booster as well as a new wireless router... I'm getting between 50-75% strong of a singal, perhaps boosting it will make things more stable?

I have noticed that there are times when I'm on the internet that it "feels" like it is going to freeze up, but it doesn't. I'm glad though that it doesn't freeze up often, but I'd rather not at all. It's happened to me once in the last three days.

My system specs are as follows:

    Vista Ultimate 64 bit
    Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R
    Q6600 at 3.4ghz
    4 Gigs G-Skill DDR2 1000mhz
    EVGA 88800GT
    SB X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
    750 Watt Zalman PSU

    and of course, Edimax EW-7128g

I'm also using a wireless mouse, (Logitech MX Revolution) just to take note... I notice that when my computer "feels" like it is about to freeze, the page on internet explorer will continue to load (or it will load a little then crash) and my mouse will freeze for half a second.

Thanks for all the help! Hopefully if a solution is made it can be submitted to Edimax and become more mainstream, as I have yet to find a solution searching on the web.

The card though really is great. You get a lot of bang for your buck.

    Re: Edimax 7128g wireless card

Just a pity it doesn't do reliably what its supposed to do.
Im still waiting to hear from somebody at Scan as to what I am to do with this card as it is a waste of space..

    Regards
