    Extended Warranty & Upgrading Information

    hello,

I was hoping to purchase an E8600 CPU as an upgrade to my 3XS system while the prices are reasonable. However, I've just realised I still have the extended warranty on my system. Assuming I fit the CPU correctly, will my warranty remain valid after the upgrade, and will the new CPU be covered?

    Thanks!

    Re: Urgent!

I can't comment on Scan's warranty policy with regards to an existing system, but it would seem somewhat unfair of them, at very least, to invalidate the warranty on the remaining components simply as a result of you dropping in a 100% compatible processor upgrade.

As far as the new CPU is concerned, Scan could quite legitimately say that they won't cover that as part of the system warranty, as you obviously didn't buy it as part of the system. However, that matters not, as assuming you buy a retail boxed processor, it will be covered by Intel's own three (or five, whichever it is) manufacturer warranty. In that respect at least then, you're sorted.

    Re: Urgent!

I have emailed you through the online query system basically if you plan to change the CPU you will need to confirm with Burnetts before doing this as they are the company with whom you have the Extended warranty with (it is a Non Scan Extended Warranty agreement)

    Regards

    Ben

    Re: Urgent!

    hello,

Richh, I've got it sorted now. Basically if I fit the CPU myself before the warranty ends, the whole warranty is invalidated. Seems unfair to me, but I guess I can wait till next year considering the current prices.
