    AKASA P2 Series(AK-ENP2SATA-BKUK)

I'm looking at purchasing this IDE & SATA eSata/USB enclosure, AKASA P2 Series(AK-ENP2SATA-BKUK), but just curious to know if there are any hard drive size limitations for both IDE and SATA drives? I've searched for reviews and looked at the enclosures manuals but nothing seems to be mentioned

    Cheers!

I have one and I know it can detect and format a 1TB drive. Whether you can use it or not is another matter. Pretty sure its limited to 400GB or was...(pretty sure it was mentioned somewhere in one of my threads....)

Anyhow, mine was made rather flimsily and it does work...after re-screwing the back plate that popped off.

I don't recommend this to people due to my experience with it.

I just read your thread about the back 'popping' off - did you manage to get a replacement? Had any problems other than the back plate? Do you know if the 400GB limit is both IDE and SATA drives, or if it's just IDE?

I originally posted a thread in hexus.hardware and Funstar replied that he has three and seems pretty impressed with them. Shame there isn't any decent reviews or a decent spec listing any limitations for hard drive sizes.

Cheers though, hopefully someone from scan might know something and reply

It's a £20 item, so I started an RMA but didn't follow through. I scratched it down to experience. Out of the case (and without the backplate) it works nicely.

I've moved on from IDE to SATA (my biggest IDE is 200GB) but if I can format an entire 1TB drive (I did two at once, one internal and one in the Akasa P2 case) and see the correct size (931GB) then surely you must be able to use it.

Pretty sure my manual stated 400GB for IDE and SATA drives...

Anyhow, your call on a £20 item. I personally think they are badly made and won't buy another nor recommend them.
