    Hiper 420Watt Power Supply

    Hi scan support,

Right I think my Hiper 420watt PSU is on its way to the PSU heaven for the 3rd time!!!

I had it replaced several weeks ago (if you need history I will PM you details) but this one although initially was good is starting to drop its rails big time!

I am sitting here typing this with 2 IE windows, MBM5 dashboard, WMP, Outlook and downloads running and rails are at 4.8v and 11.6v and VTT going between 1.41 and 1.39 which is just under what it should be it should be 1.43v. 3.3V line is fluctating badly between 3.2v and 3.33v! The embarrasing bit is that a generic 350 watt PSU that cost £11 holds the volts solid at 3.35v, 5.04v and 12.01v and VTT at 1.44v in that same situation. Good for a PSU that costs a third of the price!

Now last night I left it one (as always) d/l thats it so about 2% CPU usage so not much strange on the PSU and it shut off on its own! It's not overheating cause its watercooled and never goes above 38c... It also did it over the weekend when I went away! It shut down about 4hrs after I left it!

The odd bit is that when it does switch off I can't turn it straight back on! If I hit the power button the fans spin at like 100RPM and lights are hardly lit. I have to remove power cord for 5mins to get back on.

This is exactly what happened with the last two I returned... It also makes a ticking noise like static interferance in speakers but is only from the PSU.

When I last returned it I asked if I could another make PSU (CWT 450watt specifically) as I had been through like 2 by now and this is the third gone wrong.

What do your techies think (I think its going FUBAR quickly!) and IF I get a return can it be swapped for another make (considering the CWT is cheaper than the Hiper!)

    Regards

    Nathan

Also another note that is fluctuating by as much as 0.05v which is not going to be doing my CPU any good!

Fans make a crunching noise on anything other than high setting as well!

Ebuyer had these, and before they removed them from their site, there was a lot of reports of the exact same thing. I had to return one to them for it to (only the 3xx model though).
Ebuyer now longer sell them, and they offered me an instant refund - it wasnt the first time they had heard of it, so im sure the guys at scan will be aware of the widespread problems that these seem to be having at the moment.

    Exclamation

If you are currently using Windows based software to monitor the readings and you get the problem in future, our technicians recommend using a multi meter to get true and accurate readings.

As using software can be susceptible to its environment and operating system platform.
