Question Debit cards, No alternative delivery address?

    Was just about to order:

    http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardwa...ml#post1671298

But using my visa electron I am not allowed to specify an alternative delivery address.

As I am a student and am unable to travel back and forth from my home to term-time address this is a problem.

Is this always the case with debit cards and Scan?
Is there anyway to proceed with it?

Was planning to order today so a quick response would be nice before I proceed with an alternative site.

    Cheers.

Re: Debit cards, No alternative delivery address?

Received an email at 19:16 stating NVIDIA Mirrors Edge Game Promo and GByte GA-MA790X-UD4P MoBo are out of stock.

How come this was not known at 10am when I spent the time on the phone with you this morning?

I would have just accepted the mild variance in mobo GA-MA790X-UD4P to GA-MA790X-UD4 and Mildly less clocked Nvidia card.

But no notification email until after closing hours. A phone call earlier would have been nice.

I have a day off work tomorrow to wait in for delivery, I will not have another weekday off for several weeks.

Disappointed to find out too late to do anything about it that you did not have the items stocked

You're not the first and I doubt you'll be the last. It's bloody annoying. I've stopped ordering through Scan unless I can't obtain it anywhere else. eBuyer and Novatech don't pull this crap.

It isn't crap, go be a 1 post hero somewhere else tbh.

These things happen, its one of the issue's SCAN is working on, but it also comes with the territory of being so popular.

Other orders would have been made by then, in store, online and however else SCAN accept orders.

    Phone SCAN in the morning.

    It's CRAP!

I have 5 instances of 'Delayed Order Notification'. All for order items that were 'in stock' at the time of placing the order. First dating back to 17/01/2007. Most recent, 08/01/2009. In all cases, the delayed notification email is sent after 19:00 on the day of ordering, by which time it is too late to order from another supplier. I've been told several times that Scan is working on the issue. They've been working on it for 2 years.

Most amusing, (well I can laugh about it now), is the order that was delayed just before Christmas, because they'd just had a massive delivery of Wii, that they had been taking pre-orders for and someone had taken the decision to process and ship those before regular orders. Or at least, that was what I was told on the phone by CS at the time.

I don't have a problem with them being popular. I just think it's about time that they got their stock inventory real-time as far as the website is concerned. Other people manage to do this. Since I switched the bulk of my purchases to eBuyer (both business and personal) I have not had a single instance where an in-stock product with next day shipping did not arrive the next working day. Sometimes it means paying more than I would have done at Scan, but there is nothing more frustrating than ordering from Scan in the morning, then receiving an delayed notification email in the evening (by which time it is too late to order from elsewhere for next day delivery).

2 post hero, here to stay! ;-)

I have been a customer of scan for at least 5 years and have had this happen several times too. Twice it has happened and item still showing as in stock the next day. For prices scan are the best and customer service is good most of the time but I too have used dabs and ebuyer and have never had this problem.

Re: Debit cards, No alternative delivery address?

I love the way people always come up with the exact same response's as if the responses they give are easy to implement, im not saying how much work it would take to implement a *real time* stock system, but I bet it isnt as easy as people make out.

You say 5 instances how many orders did you make between that time?
I dont know how many orders I have made, not that many, but I havent had any delayed notifications.

As others have said before, some companies will show items that aren't in stock as being in stock just to get orders and on top of that, as you said, other retailes are often more expensive then SCAN.

Yes, me too! Hence my comment above about getting the website to show 'correct' real-time stock information. That just compounds the frustration after receiving an email saying that the 'in-stock' item is out of stock, but the website still shows it 'in-stock'.

Well I've never had it happen and I've ordered countless things from Scan.

    Never been a problem tbh

I'm not saying it's easy, just that it doesn't take years and other retailers have managed to do it.

Can't give you an exact number, right now. I'd guess about 15 orders. Based on that number, a third of these received a 'delayed order notification'.

Look, I have no axe to grind. I genuinely feel the disappointment and frustration of the original poster. Personally, if I need next-day, I do not order from Scan. It's no great secret that next-day is next-day from dispatch, not order placement. You can't rely on Scan actually despatching on the day the order is placed even without a 'delayed order notification'. In the last business calendar year my company has spent £28000 with eBuyer on computer components. Whilst again I can't give you the number of orders, what I can say is that in every case an order placed for an in-stock item has been received the next working day. Now I don't doubt that things can go wrong, even with eBuyer. ie. I know that the inventory level on the website is not decremented until after the payment, so it is possible for the last available item to be in two customer baskets, first to checkout with payment details will get the item I assume. Quite what happens in this scenario to customer two, I don't know. But there seems to be a lot less margin for error than there is with 'in-stock' web inventory at Scan.
