General Question - Do Scan Price Match..

Hi, I know for Scan it is not really an issue as there product are so dam cheap anyway.. but if found cheaper and want to buy from Scan instead of another company would they price match to beat the competitor or match it? Only ask as looking to buy some hardware and found cheaper elsewhere but want to remain loyal to Scan..

Anyone know without spamming saying it is a bit cheeky asking as I genuinely don't know.

Last time someone asked this, IIRC, the answer from Scan was that they don't price match as such, but that you can always use the link some of their staff have to request items to go into TodayOnly.

Pointless post, Novatech do sometimes, and I have heard on occasions they do here, they do at PC World price match and beat, Dixons Price Match I think, Richer Sounds price match, they are the ones of my top of my head, many more price-match as well..

Gibbo always tries to price match (more than often same or even cheaper) and it's an online price

If a retailer does 'sometimes' thats not really price-matching, thats lowering the price if you can. Which is what Scan does, but usually they can't because margins are tight. Yes some big retailers price match, but not with online companies - have you ever tried to price match in a retailer? Theres a huge list of exclusions, meaning special offers are excluded, etailers are excluded, the other retailer has to have held the price for a few days. Price matching is a pointless thing thats advertised for marketing purposes rather than any legitimate business reason. And PC World and Dixons are the same company, the same company thats closing stores left right and centre because the business is shot to ****.

Advanced, are you accusig Scan of ripping off customers?

As for the Dixons Stores Group, I don't see the probem with those charges (thought I would be interested to see what the Flatscreen isntallation charge includes). So do you believe they should offer these services for free? Being a publicly limited company, whos sole aim it is to make money (a corporation is actually legaly obliged to make money for it's share holders, it could be held to account if it didn't) why should they do this for nothing? This is exactly the same as taking your car into the garage to be serviced, repaired or new parts fitted. Just because you can install these parts, or perform these services without really thinking about it, doesn't mean that everyone else can. Do you also maintain your own car? Or do you pay someone to do that for you?

I totally agree that they should be able to charge customers for these services, but some of the prices are ridiculous, the "PC healthcheck" involves a virus and spyware scan, deletion of cookies, and hard disk defragmentation. Simply writing a guide about how to do this for their customers seems much fairer, as I'm sure you will agree £88 is a ridiculous amount of money to pay for that. All their stuff is HERE.
I actually just clicked on the flatscreen TV installation service and it appears "The product you selected is no longer available. Please feel free to browse our site to find yourself a great value alternative." - so perhaps no-one would pay for that?
Anyway take a look around and see what you think. Personally I could do some of those things when I was 9 years old, and I think the "healthcheck" pricing is especially unfair.
