    Poor DL Media

Just a general complaint that the AOne Plus Dual Layer DVDs are total poo. First time I've had these from Scan as the Riteks werent stocked but the Aone Ricoh's are really poor. I've had 4 fails from 8 burns. Previously with Riteks I'd get maybe one in 50 fails and at unpredictable times. These fail at the layer change mostly. Actually I am wondering if this isnt the 2nd tub I have had grief with.

Anyway, my advice is to avoid these. Cheap they may be but cheerful I am NOT!

    Re: Poor DL Media

My first pack of Aone were great, only 1 failure, my next order scan never had them in stock and I got Mirror, I'm not sure but if 1 worked that's it, I tried everything even bought a new burner, I've got Aone again now, I've got something to burn I know failed twice with the mirror's, I'll give it a go tomorrow.

    Methanoid.

If your having issues with the Aone discs then I would recomend that you look at the Intenso media as I have been getting better results with these discs compared to the Aone discs.

For reliability then I would have to say stick with a good quality media such as the Verbatim range

    Re: Poor DL Media

I've always found Ritek based media more reliable. Scan used to stock but don't. I've found I have 3 tubs so am just gonna use these up and buy some Ritek's elsewhere.

FYI, 1st tub, 6 fails out of 10. Second two good from two so far. I'm so unsure of the media though I am having to burn and use the verify option to make sure it could be read. I had one burn fine but could not be read back.

**** happens. I'm not unhappy with Scan - been buying there for about 18 years now so I doubt a few gripes here and there would put me off

    Re: Poor DL Media

i'll be honest i got some of the Aone DL media last week and i have probably used around 15-16 disks without issue.

However i do go with this majority and opt for Ritek, i was the same and Got the Aone as the Riteks were OOS.

    Many Thanks

In all honesty it depends as there are some poor Ritek dyes also knocking around, I used to get the purple topped Traxdata dual layered discs - these originally were superb however the last batch I got they had changed to use the Ritek S04 dye, out of 25 discs 20 failed.

Since then started using Intenso and results seem ok so far - dont get me wrong I probably have 1 or 2 bad discs out of 10 guess for quality and reliabilty nothing still beats the verbatim media.

My Aone burned fine, I think your burner and pc set-up makes a difference.
So I'll be sticking with Aone.

    Re: Poor DL Media

yup would not recommend burning the aones at anything more than 4x. have had plenty of aones and very rarely had a coaster. prolly talking 1 in 100 discs. recommend using the pioneer with the latest firmware imo

    Re: Poor DL Media

It would help a bit more if Scan could list the dye codes? It would certainly help in making an informed decision as to how well the discs MAY perform.

I'll second that, personally I always use Verbatim media with my Pioneer burner for important backups, for everyday stuff Emtec seems to be ok with only 1 or 2 failed burns so far.

The problem is that dye codes can change from batch to batch, and not all manufacturers provide an easy way to identify them without opening a pack

Not only that, but Scan can easily have multiple batches.

It's different for CD/DVD specialists, like SVP (or like they used to be). That is their business so knowing exactly what they have in stock as far as batch number of production codes goes is important to them. Not so much for Scan.

    Re: Poor DL Media

i use aone, the way i think of it as is verbs are about 2.5 times the price per disk so even if you have two coasters your still saving money

but i agree i can usually guess im going to get one coaster per spindle atleast

    Re: Poor DL Media

    BAH!

I just borrowed some money to buy parts and i wasn't sure if to buy the Ritek or the Aone disk on the weekend daily special and i now feel like a idiot as i ordered 100 Aone disks.

    *edit*

Reason i opted for the Aone disks is that i was lead to believe that Aone was based on Taiyo Yuden disks but i assume now thats not true. ?

Spot on tbh, it is difficult sometimes as like agent states, manufacturers dont always make it easy to decifer what dye they are using, and also mixed batches.

    many Thanks
