    Hard Drive Problem

Brought the 500 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 about 2 months back, been powering off for no reason at all, can hear it spin down, and start up at random times, speedfan is also reporting its 'fitness' is very low, tested in hd tune but no errors at all, but it's been really weird, powering down, being very slow in general.

    Any ideas?

Is its power supply connector securely plugged in?

Hmm, swapped the connectors over, seems ok now, will see how it goes.

The hard drive seems to be making an annoying buzzing sound, and the computer goes really slow, and I only just formatted... last night it kept making a scratching sound too. Dying already? I think so :/

    NickNolan,

I would recommend that you download and run the seagate diagnostic tool from there website to see if this picks up any problems with the drive. Once ran this should give you a report on the status of the drive.

The program can be downloaded from here:

    http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/sup...loads/seatools

    Passed the S.M.A.R.T
    Failed the Short DST
    Failed the Long DST
    Passed the Short Generic
    Failed the Short Generic

    3 fails, 2 passes.

Not a good thing, right. How'd I go about RMA'ing it? Through you or through SeaGate?

I would recommend that you go directly to Seagate as this will probably be quicker for you, they can be contacted on 0800 4732 4283

Is there any chance I can send to scan for a RMA?
