    M4A89GTD PRO/USB3

    hi guys,

I bought this product just yesterday and finished setting it up as part of my new build.

    Couple of things wrong:
    A)- Your description on website describes it as a 790FX - its a 890GX
B)- The product I actually got was a M4A89GTD PRO - Not USB3 model, let me expand:

The scan warranty label on the box shows it as a Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 but its definately just the PRO model - Neither the Asus box or the manuals mention USB3.0 and also the board itself does not say USB3 on it (like in the hexus and other website reviews).

I'll give customer services a ring on monday to arrange either a replacement (different board) or for a refund as its not the product I was after. Just though I'd let you guys know in the meantime that you need to amend your website records and also need to check stock levels are labelled correctly.

    thanks - Umar.

Apologies for this error, our Customer Service & Purchasing department are investigating this issue as we speak and will be in touch to offer a collection and refund. Stock has been removed from sale until we determine the cause of the problem. This could be because of a booking in error or stock sent incorrectly from the supplier.

We will keep this thread updated.

    Best Regards

Thanks Chris - mistakes happen so no worries.

I've emailed Customer Services this morning pointing them to this thread. Hope I don't have to make the 35mile trip back to scan to return just the board ! :<

Re: Asus M4A89GTD PRO - Correction required

Theres me pooing it thinking I've screwed up and got this all wrong.

Turns out I'm right about this board being only a PRO model:

"The USB 3 on the ASUS M4A89GTD Pro/USB3 motherboard is provided by the NEC D720200F1 chip right below the back panel." - This chip is not on the mainboard I have (i noticed it didnt ask me for drivers when it was installing the OS). Please see this pic linked from another site:

Can i have this turned around quickly please - I've got a whole system sat here useless without the mainboard....... thanks

    Hi zoomee

Details of the free collection will be e-mailed through to you shortly so a refund for the mobo can be processed once returned. We have updated our web site as all our stock is the PRO version, NOT PRO/USB3.

Our purchasing dept is looking into setting up the USB 3 version you have the option of purchasing from us with free carriage once available.

    Best Regards

Re: Asus M4A89GTD PRO - Correction required

Thanks Chris - just PM'd you the details.

I'd appreciate a quick turn around - you'll notice from my invoice number I purchased a complete system from scan which is a tad useless without a mainboard - lol

Any news on when stock of the USB3 mainboards are due? I really don't want to purchase from elsewhere as scan have been a great supplier over the years for me - one hiccup in 5+years of service is more than acceptable!

We have confirm the price is correct for the PRO version and we were not charged for the USB 3 revision, this is being set up now as we speak. It will be slightly more expensive and I will update you as soon as this is available to pre-order.

Re: Asus M4A89GTD PRO - Correction required

I ended up purchasing the USB3 board from another supplier (sorry scan I couldn't wait for you to get it into stock).

However I now have a problem getting my memory stable on it - Please note this issue occurs on both the PRO and USB3 models I've had:

Prime95 blend test keeps on stopping responding after approximately 6 hours of testing. This is irrespective of whether I am running my RAM at 1600Mhz or 1333Mhz - stock voltage or the rated voltage of 1.65v. I'm pretty sure it's a RAM issue as thats what the blend test in prime is usually to test.

Even though the board says it supports upto 1866Mhz RAM - Technically the AMD AM3 CPU's can only support upto 1333Mhz (Found this out yesterday )

However - Having taking this issue up with both Asus and Corsair - Corsair says it should be compatible (no further advice), Asus have it on they're QVL list (which is why I purchased this set), but quote the following on their forums:

"There is nothing wrong with the Asus QVL... and the memory listed actually worked in R&D when the board was being tested.. But that was actually a long time ago.. at least in computer time...

The QVL is generally out of date within a month... memory chips change in the kits they tested... SPD programming changes... and so if at all possible, you want to avoid the QVL and use a memory vendor's online configurator. Unfortunately, this board is so new that most vendors still do not list it... so the QVL is all there is right now... but when vendors do list the board, you can be assurred that the memory they list, all things being equal, will work properly. "

I've run memtest overnight on both sticks and got no reported errors providng its ok - overall I don't think its compatible with this mainboard, and just to confirm only 1 supplier to date actually lists compatible memory on their websites - Crucial - but I aint willing to pay £200 just for 4Gb of RAM!

Im a tad stuck here - had this system over 2 weeks and its still not stable - Reported this to scan technical team for assistance but havn't heard anything back - Any help on this please Chris? - I'm beginning to regret going back to an AMD setup after all this!

Re: Asus M4A89GTD PRO - Correction required

Thanks chris - Mark from techies emailed me yesterday stating it was incompatible and recommended a different set of modules - However:

well it looks like my original stuff works! - Had to manually set it to 2T (That and the voltage were incorrectly detected by BIOS) - since which its run 1 x 10hr prime blend no probs and a 12 hour prime blend session overnight ok.

So they do work - Shame that neither the QVL list nor the memory package mention its 2T only - ONLY place I found this info was on corsair's memory configurator.

Finally got a fully working system - yaay.
