Question Product Request: USB 3.0 Card Reader Bay

    Hi Scan & everyone else,

Like many people, I am looking at USB 3.0 devices and a card reader in particular because USB 2.0 devices are not fast enough for newer memory cards. I have come across a 5.25 bay case panel which has multiple memory card support, HD front panel audio output, one USB 3.0 output and eSATA output and the memory card part connects via USB 3.0.

I don't know how much these cost because I cannot find anywhere that stocks them, so would Scan consider stocking these panels?

I like these in particular because they come with a white/beige front panel as well as black, so it would suit my case much better than other less complete devices. They do do some 3.5" bays as well. They can be contacted by companies on their website.

I don't know. The earlier model HRU-226A5 as you can see in the picture, looks like it uses a header type connector on the panel circuit board which would mean it would depend upon what was on the other end of the cable. But whatever is on it, it could be easily replaced for an appropriate cable. There are SATA, USB and Intel HD Audio cables that can be seen in the picture.

The USB 3.0 version is a lot less clear unfortunately.

The new USB 3.0 version HRU-326R5 is not even as clear as the less than precise HRU-226A5, because I can only see one cable connected and there needs to be three, one USB 3.0, SATA and Intel HD audio. So maybe they all connect via one cable but that seems foolish. I prefer the way the earlier version is.

I doubt that they would limit it to either internal or external connectors because that would be foolish. But nothing should be assumed.

If it uses a connector, it should be possible to get the appropriate cable if one isn't supplied.

I wanted to use it with an Akasa USB 3.0 card which has an internal connection but uses a USB connector rather than a header.

Your comment does raise some questions which do need to be answered.
