Abit AV8 with Tagan 480 PSU

I have just bought the AV8 3rd eye and Tagan 480 PSU.

I noticed that the Tagan power connector for the MB splits into a 20 pin socket and a 4 pin socket.

The issue is that the 4 pin socket does not appear to be compatible with the MB.

The PSU provides 5V, 3.3V 12V and COM but the MB is expecting 12V, 12V, COM, COM.

The PSU also supplies a pair of blue cables that are for a P4 MB which supply the correct 12V, 12V, COM, COM pins.

So is it ok to use one of the blue P4 cables with the 20 pin MB socket?

    Thanks
    George.

Yep, you're right. Use P4 (not P4+) for the 4-pin ATX12V on the 3rd Eye

The 4-pin that joins with main 20-pin ATX it to turn it into EATX, which isn't compatible with your mainboard.

Ok, so I plugged in the P4 connector and tried to boot up.

    The POST display showed:
0.2.: when the power plug is connected and the system is off.
8.3.: just after pushing the power-on button. This code will stay for about 5 seconds.
9.C.: will stay for another 5 seconds.
9.E.: barely for a tenth of a second
9.F.: this will show after the system shuts down and will stay so until I press the power button again.

I have stripped all the peripherals and left only 1 RAM stick on the MB.
My CPU is an AMD 3500 Winchester.

I have heard that the version of the bios can be an issue with Winchester CPU's but I have no way of checking my bios version.

Any suggestions what to try next? other than sending it all back?

Try and borrow a Newcastle cored proc and boot it up with that?
I built a couple of boxes before Xmas with the AV8 and it needs at least the 1.5 bios version to be able to use a Winchester.
