    New customer to SCAN

    Hi everyone,

I'm currently updating my rather old Athlon XP system to a Athlon64 3500+ system. I've already managed to get several parts, now comes the expensive bits such as the CPU and gfx card.

I've been reading the Scan website and this forum and they seem pretty good supplier from what I've read so far. However the card of choice (XFX 6800GT PCI-E retail) seems to have been out of stock when I've checked, is this a long term situation or hoping to be resolved soon.

And what exactly is the difference between the OEM and Retail packs? I'd rather go for the retail pack if it has leads, drivers, software etc. rather than just a plain brown box with a card stuck in an anti-static bag

Glad to see Scan use a forum like this, makes it easier when your looking to spend 5-600 quid with them!!

The Differnce between the "OEM" and "RETAIL" is the "OEM" is a what they call a cut down version so the "OEM" doesn't come with software or drivers, the "RETAIL" one does, it comes with drivers, games(where applicable) and cables, But the price reflects the difference hence oem is 99.9% of the time a few quid cheaper. Hope that helps.
