    REplacement harddrive

    Hello,

i purchased a maxtor 200gig hard drive a few weeks ago from scan, i havnt had the oppertunity to start using using it until this week, unfortunately the harddrive is making alot of noise when it is working. The noise is quite irritating and alot of the time it makes my case door vibrate making more noise. Could i please request that the hard drive be replaced with another one, and instructions on how to do so.

    thanks very much

    Neil,

Depending on which hard drive you have you could download a Drive testing program from the Drive manufacturer to see if it is faulty. I know Maxtor and Samsung do this. Saves a lot of hassle sending it back if there is nothing wrong with it.

i dont think i would need to, the harddrive is making alot of noise and ive checked for any cause other than the hrddrive itself... plus i dont have a floppy drive :/

unfortunately due to some moving-house problems i wont be able to get to my pc until around next week, Is it possible to tell me the procedure on this thread so that i can work out how i can handle this?

    thanks

sorry Akill, but i would like to say I too am having lou noisey from my 2xDM10 250gb sata hdd brought at teh weekend over the counter.

when it writes or reads (read mainly) it makes a very loud hdd noise, like those own hdd found in an 486. Both Hdd are noisey but when its idle its silent.

brought mine over the counter so will I be able to replace them?

    phil

If it was from over the counter, your best bet is to bring it in over the counter to be checked...

At a guess, you'll be doing well to get a replacement by return post - no company (I know of) will send a replacement before they get the old one. Most will test it first - some will even return it to the manufacturer for repair (while you wait).
