WD Caviar - rma replacement dies ...

Last month I had one of my WD 200GB 8MB cache caviar SE's die on me taking with it quite alot of stuff. I have had the rma replacement less than a month and guess what? its on its way out, some files are unreadable, its making a horrible noises .... just run their diagnostic tool to create an RMA request and that says its knackered as well, this is the RMA replacement that is on its way out I have another 2 that are still fine .... I'm not happy and scared the others may die as well

Nothing lost this time - its all backed up ...... on other WD Caviar SE's

Anyone else had any probs with these drives?

Well, its probably just very bad luck. You've checked the temps have you? Obviously you don't need to cool hard drives like CPUs and GPUs, but they can get hot and this can be a problem.

Its unlikely though, probably just a spate of bad luck mate.

temps 33C according to mbm (scsi drives get upto 45C according to aerogate sensor) - all drives are in the rack at the bottom of my pc70 with a couple of 80mm fans blowing directly onto them ... it ain't heat thats killing them - 3rd drive gone in a month ... I could cry, its costing me a fortune just paying shipping on rma's
